Needed to renew my passport this year for some planned travel over the summer. I used the online renewal portal. I completed the application on Friday, Feb 3 around lunchtime. I got my
Passport in the mail yesterday, Feb 10. Exactly one week including transit time. It was only due to the weekend that I didn’t have it a day or two earlier. It was at the local post office on Saturday. They only offer normal speed service for online renewals so this wasn’t an expedited application.

Passport card looks like it was mailed out yesterday so it should be here in a couple days.

I have to say this is possibly the most efficient process I’ve ever been a part of from FedGov. Hopefully this is the new normal and I didn’t just get lucky.

That's good news, as I'm sure my ex wife will wait until 10 days out to renew our son's passport.

I suspect, based on nothing, that the annual rushes are closer to spring break through to near the end of summer, followed by the holiday travel panic.

We got our kids first passports last year at the post office, and even the in person only took about 10 business days.

The new passports are awesome.

Yeah- I was not expecting anything different. They are really cool. And easier to just open right to the ID page.

Not so fast...we sent off for passports for our two sons in December. We received both birth certificates back and 1 passport around Jan 20. The other passport never showed up and is apparently lost (most likely stolen by a USPS employee). Now we have 3-4 weeks to get the replacement. They received everything in the passport office last Wednesday; they haven't done anything with it yet. Told us to call back Feb 24.

They’re nuts now too, the photo ‘page’ is like a giant drivers license plastic material.

Same experience…got mine in last week.

Mine expires in September. I have a Punta Cana trip in March and a Cancun trip in June. So I should be good renewing in between those trips, right?

You are cutting it close with the Punta Cana trip. Depends on the dates of the trip and expiration date if your passport. The passport has to be valid for at least six months past the date of entry into DR.

Where would one recommend getting a passport in BR? I had one years ago that I’ve never renewed. I’m assuming I will have to get a new one.

Post office, make an appointment and prefill your paperwork before you go

Wanted to share my experience this morning. On Saturday, I scheduled an appointment for a new passport, including photo, for this morning at the Bluebonnet PO. Received a text less than an hour before stating the camera wasn’t working, that I needed to obtain a photo elsewhere. Thankfully I was able to do so and arrived early for my “appointment.” No one in sight except for the young person who assisted me; a young person dressed in what looked like PJs. I hope everything is handled correctly and I receive my passport at some point.

I mean, he should've sealed the envelope and scanned the label right in front of you before you left the post office.

Don’t recall if they did that or not. I was writing out a check while she did her thing. I saw her putting it in a drawer when I handed her the check.
