The final four season considering:
1) This team has not won on the road this season
2) Tough games including MSU, TN, Xavier, Ark loom
3)A slide in the next group of games would effectively end this season by Feb 1
4) If they have a tough stretch of games, Coach Johnson runs the risk of losing the attention of this group of players since they know they are not his 'chosen' ones

It's the most important one since the last one. This team needs to at least win the west if they want a shot at getting into the tourn. With their weak schedule, they need every win they can get.

5) Because there were no important games the past two seasons because those years didn't mean crap.

...Well I guess the UCONN game in 2007 when Gameday was there was pretty important. But I stand by what I said because the rest of that season went straight down the crapper and the year after that was even worse.

It's important, but not critical. We have to get to 9 (maybe 10) SEC wins to have any shot at the tourney.

6 or 7 home wins and 2-3 road wins are a must. A win today goes a long way to achieving that goal.

There's not a good chance that this season is going to be special anyway. We just don't have a ton of talent. We still don't have a good PG, even though we have atleast on our team now, which is good. And, Chris Johnson is worthless as a center.

If Taz doesn't score 20+ points a game in the SEC, we won't win a ton of games.

I think it is more important for the players to continue to buy into Coach Johnson's system than any game will be this year.

Anything other than that is just extra icing.

IMO, we are 2-3 years away from being a consistent tourney team.

I don't think fans are expecting anything special, unless you consider getting to the tourney as special. I don't, but it is a good start.

The lack of good SEC teams this year gives me hope we can reach that goal. It would be a positive for recruiting and hopefully carryover to next season.

It all comes down to recruiting. You can win big with true freshmen these days. It just takes one really good class to jump start the program.

Personally, I think the game against South Carolina last Wednesday and the game against Miss State is more important than this game. A win today would be great for this team, but a home loss against South Carolina would have been more devestating IMO. Also, with MSU off to a 2-0 start in the SEC West, LSU needs to take care of homecourt on Wednesday. If you combine these three games together, you have a very important stretch of this season.

Personally, I think an NCAA tournament would be pretty special especially for guys like CJ and GT who have missed the post-season the last two years. The expectations were pretty low coming into the season due to the departure of Randolph and Morgan heading out West.

I said fans, not players.

You don't have to be a very good team to get in the tourney if you play in a big conference. Finish in the top half of the SEC and you're almost assured of getting in.

That's not special to me. It is something I believe we could achieve almost every year with the right coach. Making a deep run in the tourney is special.

Agreed, but I think it would be somewhat special given what LSU has done the past couple of years. LSU should be a household name in the NCAA tournament, but that hasn't been the case since the late 80's/early 90's. Making the NCAA tournament shouldn't be deemed special at a major program like LSU, but missing it for two consecutive seasons makes it a little more important IMO.

Most important game thus far...

winning on the road in the SEC is huge, any chance you get. We need 14 wins after today, because it's going to be tough to have 16 by next Saturday.

Personally, I think a home loss against SC would have been worse. Road wins don't mean nearly as much if you can't protect your home court.

I agree. It's jut a bonus, though, when you win on the road. I figure we win 7 at home. We need 3 on the road...Ole Miss, Auburn, and maybe a steal somewhere in the east.

Agreed, I would be stoked if LSU could win today. Take care of business today and against MSU in the PMAC on Wed, and LSU would be one of the frontrunners in the WEST.
