Hearing Protection Act Re-Introduced in the US Senate

Mike Crapo (ID) - senate site
quote:
U.S. Senator Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) led a group of 28 additional Senate colleagues in reintroducing S. 364, the Hearing Protection Act (HPA). The HPA would reclassify suppressors to regulate them like a regular firearm.
“Federal red tape continues to follow the false Hollywood narrative that suppressors are silent, and ignores the reality that they serve a genuine purpose in protecting the hearing of law-abiding American citizens exercising their Second Amendment rights,” said Senator Crapo. “It is past time Congress removes the burdensome barriers to accessing this equipment for the safety of Idaho’s hunters and sportsmen.”

Last time I paid attention was 8 years ago when Trump Jr said he had already talked to his dad and that suppressors would be legal within the year. Or something like that. And then the whole subject just vanished.

Something kinda big happened before when Trump was president that took priority.
What was that???
Oh yeah, COVID....

A suppressor should be available off the shelf at Academy.

COVID....
Well it was three years from when Trump took office to when COVID hit. So what happened in those three years that prevented him from doing it?
Then, what does COVID have to do with anything? What about COVID prevented him from signing an EO dealing with suppressors?
Come to think of it, the only thing I remember Trump doing regarding 2A rights was when he rolled ours back to ban bump stocks. Maybe he did some good 2A things that I'm not aware of.
COVID?

I think the Las Vegas shooting set a lot of things back. I'm not saying that it was right or even constitutional, but it was a factor

I'm not a lawyer but I don't think an executive order would be able to remove silencers from the NFA since they were put there by the National Firearms Act.
Would require a law to do so.

I was about to say the same thing, but you beat me to it.

I agree with your statement. I thought somewhere I had heard the legal definition of “common use” being thrown around as leverage to remove them and sbr’s and the common use threshold was low, like 100k. I think that number came from some taser argument (?).
I have a suppressor and would gladly let the gov keep my $200 if the next one has no tax stamp. The whole sbr thing is the same with ar pistols being the thing.

First time I heard a gun with a silencer was only 2 years ago. I knew the movies overdid it on how quiet it made a gun. It was still pretty dam loud and made it sound like a star wars gun. Yes I want some but not the tax stamp BS. Should just be able to buy it off the shelf.

He opted to make bump stock owners felons instead.

Actually the Las Vegas shooting happened during the midst of that bill that was gaining traction. And then this incident took the wind out of its sails.

Absolutely stupid. So big brother still tracks you for a piece of metal that saves your hearing…DOGE needs to audit that clown from ID as well.
Senate and House full of girly men and neocons.

Should just be able to buy it off the shelf.
