Here's some stats for Mcmahon to date during his tenure at LSU:
Overall: 43-47
Overall Road Record: 4-21
Record against Top 25 Teams: 4-13
Overall SEC Record: 12-35
SEC Road Record: 3-22
Double Digit Losses: 31
20+ Point Losses: 8
Average Loss: 12.2 points

Here's how that compares to each of the 4 previous LSU coaches through their 3rd season:

Wade
Overall: 64-30
Overall Road Record: 17-15
Record against Top 25 Teams: 5-9
Overall SEC Record: 36-18
SEC Road Record: 15-12
Double Digit Losses: 11
20+ Point Losses: 3
Average Loss: 8.9 points

Jones
Overall: 61-37
Overall Road Record: 15-18
Record against Top 25 Teams: 4-5
Overall SEC Record: 29-25
SEC Road Record: 12-16
Double Digit Losses: 12
20+ Point Losses: 1
Average Loss: 8.0 points

Johnson
Overall: 49-48
Overall Road Record: 9-22
Record against Top 25 Teams: 0-9
Overall SEC Record: 18-30
SEC Road Record: 8-16
Double Digit Losses: 27
20+ Point Losses: 13
Average Loss: 13.9 points

Brady
Overall: 49-39
Overall Road Record: 6-22
Record against Top 25 Teams: 5-15
Overall SEC Record: 16-30
SEC Road Record: 6-18
Double Digit Losses: 14
20+ Point Losses: 10
Average Loss: 12.4 points

All of these coaches faced difficulties when they first took the HC gig, granted each one was fairly unique circumstances. Wade and Jones were head and shoulders above where Mcmahon is at through their first three years. He is also lagging behind by quite a bit where Johnson and Brady were despite Johnson's terrible stretch from 2009-2011 and Brady's rough first season (granted not his fault). Mcmahon is also the only one out of the 5 to not make the NCAA tournament at least once during his first three years. Was this a lot of work? Yes. Is this a melt? Absolutely. And quite frankly, anyone that truly cares about LSU basketball should be melting that this is the product that we are getting for the price we are paying. I will also continue to update Mcmahon's stats until we are free from this basketball hell.

TL;DR: Mcmahon is the worst head coach that LSU has had in 50 years and the stats prove it

Yes but McMahon had a LSU imposed 1 scholarship ban, so who knows what that player could have been.

Could have been Jalen Cook or Tyrell ward... we'll never know!

Yeah. Who knows? Maybe if we had that extra scholarship, he could be on par with *checks notes*....Trent Johnson

Seems like there are some stats to prove it was Trent Johnson, but he did get a year 4

LSU will never put the funding necessary into men's basketball to be super competitive. Not in this day and age. NIL has killed LSU men's basketball, IMO.

I feel like this could have been summarized with one sentence.

I'd agree, but TJ won the SEC and a tournament game. That kind of jets him past CMM

Different era. Inherited a stacked roster that would have all hit the portal after John Brady was fired

No doubt,

But you could give CMM Marcus Thornton and he'd probably bench him for some 6 year senior who averages 5 ppg and 2 rebs.

You appear to have gotten your stats from Wikipedia. They are a bit wrong because no one apparently cares enough to update them anymore. McMahon's overall record is now 43-45.

You are correct, thanks for correcting me. Guess I learned nothing from my high school teachers

In his first three seasons at LSU Johnson had a (barely) over .500 overall winning %. (49-48). He had a .375 winning % in SEC play. (18-30)

Barring a complete miracle, McMahon is going to be under .500 overall and have a .270 (possibly lower) SEC winning %

McMahon has replaced Johnson as LSU's worst HC in the last 50+ years.

& that’s including his 13-3 year in the SEC with a stacked roster year 1. He was much worse than McMahon years 2 & 3

The NIL didn't kill the lsu mb program Mcloser is the one who as destroyed this program period. The Stats show you that,he is by far the worst coach they've had here in the last 50 years, besides the stats proving that they got dominated and blown out by a mediocre lower half Georgia team! Just unacceptable, and the problem is Fatty Patty Woody will probably not fire him for another 2 years which just sucks!

CoachMc > Wade

Wade lost 33 SEC games in 5 years, CoachMc has already tied him in less than 3 seasons. CoachMc is about record setting pace.

The team has quit mid-season 2 out of 3 seasons. There's no way LSU can keep this guy, even if the administration would have liked to.
