Ingram timing was terrible by league design

I think we can all agree that Griff is a piece of shite who sits on his assets way too long. With that being said, Ingram is really the first test of the new tax threshold rules, seeing as no one wants to be on the repeat offenders with the new rules. 2 years ago, we could have flipped a guy like Ingram to a playoff team that needs some scoring for good young players and better picks. Now, no one in this league is going to or can pay him the money that he is going to ask for. IMO, the Luka trade had a lot to do with this due to the supermax, and we are going to be seeing guys like Ingram traded for lesser players much more often.

Ingram and Julius Randle.
Been saying this since last year when this whole saga started as teams started feeling the impact of the 2nd apron.
They're the first 2 guys in that 40-50 range who would be auto-max guys under the old CBA, but who are major issues on a max with the 2nd apron.

Correct again. I tried to explain this the day of the trade.
Even Fox didn't get a big haul when he had much higher value a few years ago.

Probably not, considering that AAV on salaries is going to continue to go up across the board, like it has been doing for the last decade.
What seems like an overpay today will be a bargain before the extension is even over.

In time a balance will be struck, but teams right now are in panic mode over the 2nd apron and it's freezing the market a good bit.

I remember this board thinking we would get a minimum three firsts since Siakam got three and was in the same exact situation as BI.

League design didn't suck in the playin, throw a public hissy fit about playtime, shoot 30% in the playoffs, get in a fight with his coach in the locker room, and only played 18 games.

None of this had any bearing on Ingram’s value, it’s 100% the amount of money he is demanding, and every player will start seeing this.

Yeah BI and Randle just have the problem of being the first market participants until the market finds an equilibrium over time.

BI, Randle, Jerami Grant, Kuzma, Jordan Poole - bunch of offensive dudes who put up numbers but are a net negative to winning basketball.

Yep, I said a few days ago players have gotten used to if you’re a top 75ish player you automatically get a max contract. With the new CBA teams aren’t doing that anymore, players will adjust their demands but it will take a few years.

My question is why didn’t Griff recognize this. They all knew these new rules were coming. It’s not hard to see what repercussions would be there. And it was obvious that BI was a bad fit here. He got scared to pull the trigger and cost us a lot.

You have to wait and see how other teams adjust their philosophies. Everyone thought the previous CBA with the luxury tax would deter teams from spending, but that didn’t happen and they spent even more and gave up even more in trades.

I've been trying to explain that on here since this offseason, when people tried to make BI the bad guy for asking for what was literal SOP across the league. I imagine he even lowered his demands from that max.
