Scoot Henderson
Or
Indy 2026 1st top 4 protected
That seems to be the hindsight choices on trading BI on time vs a year late.

Scoot, and I don't particularly like him.
The Pacers look to be good again next year. Even if they have injuries they'd be mid, which is not really worth much in terms of 1st rounders.

You should prob add Dyson Daniels in there too.
With Scoot, there's no need to get DJM. Still however, I should go back when I was pushing Scoot to the boot and call out all the dummies calling me a dummy

Dyson was never going to be a thing here. He's about to get really expensive and we were never paying him when we have Herb.
Dyson was traded for apex value for the Pellies and if we held him, it would become another story about Griff waiting too long.

Not saying your’re wrong
However future draft picks are at their highest value before they turn into a player .
I wouldn’t anticipate the Pels actually drafting with that pick unless they blow it up today.

You're 100% correct, but that value is inflated as hell these days.
The further into the future, the higher the value, because you can always convince yourself they'll be terrible in 3-5 years. We know what Indy is likely to look like next year, and it's a solid at worst team in the East.
Had that pick been down the road, we could convince ourselves it was worth infinity.

Yeah, I think the 1st might be worth more considering Scoot has disappointed and but is still good enough to get a 2nd contract that probably kills his value.

Scoot because that means we still have Dyson.

Indy 2026 pick will likely be in the early 20s.

What you're really asking is should Griff have known to trade BI in the spring of '23 without ever really getting to see him and Z play a full season together?
I think that's easy to say as an arm chair GM, not in real life. Brandon and Zion were both top picks in their drafts and talented pros who, on paper, could anchor a championship roster much like Tatum and Brown have in Boston (two players many smart-guy commenters said for years would never work together for the Cs).
To have broken up Z and BI before ever really giving them a chance would have been GM malpractice however it turned out...

Yes because it was real clear to me 2 years ago TM3 was the real partner to Zion.
