TL;dr version, according to the writer Harrison didn’t shop Luka around to all comers because he wanted to make the trade he wanted to make, he wanted to take all potential leverage away from Luka and his agent and he didn’t want the fans to get wind of it and jump on his arse until the deed was done.

Tim MacMahon has a book about Luka coming out in the next couple of months. He’s as plugged in as anybody.

Basically what I said yesterday

Also I imagine he wanted to nullify Lebron's impact.

The crazy thing is that he did a great job of building a team around Luka since he became GM.

This season is an outlier due to the injuries, but everything he’s done has been to supply Luka with running buddies that accentuate his game.

Then overnight…. He blows it all up.

Hope he was plugged in enough to get all his book money upfront.

We know that... why getting back only one is 1st is the trade he wanted to make is another discussion entirely.

We’re talking about the national basketball association. Just so we’re clear.

Nico also traded Porzingis for Dinwiddie and Bertans.

The funniest part of Nico's press conference was when he praised Pelinka for not leaking that trade talks were happening. No way was anybody in the Lakers org gonna let on that Luka was on the block.

He’s already said thousands of books have already been printed, and he’s going to have to write another chapter about the trade with an insert placed in those books containing an online link to that chapter.

Chapter entitled "nevermind all that next Dirk stuff from the last 200 pages".

Wouldn’t want the player, of fans, or public opinion getting in the way of a terrible fricking trade

His arse is on the line if it turns out that way.

I just shared this because as has been noted McMahon the writer is pretty respected and clued in on things, he’s not just an internet goober spreading assumptions.

No way Nico Harris has this much authority (GM or not). No way is he allowed to do something like this unless it’s signed-off (or he’s instructed) by higher-ups. This was an ownership/group decision, Nico is the fall guy

Nothing about it makes sense. From an on the court perspective to the way it all went down out of the blue with no bidding war. Never seen anything like it.

I just imagine Rob Pelinka stringing this guy along the whole time thinking he’s a complete retard.

The one theory I have seen is it's a ploy to make a move to LV more palatable.

Alienate and piss of the whole fanbase so they won't fight as much when you move them
