I read through ESPN’s article, and it seems like a mostly a hit job to kick dirt on the Saints once again. Did I miss a criminal act of some kind?
It just says that they assisted the archdiocese with PR relations and damage control in the wake of the sex scandal as the names of all credibly-accused priests were released to the public. Is that a crime?
It seems like people are getting really emotional and assuming that the Saints did something criminal here. Every person or organization has the right to defend themselves and try to mitigate the damage even after a crime has been committed. It’s similar to having a right to a trial. You have a right to try to save your name and mitigate the damage as long as you’re not enabling any further crimes to be committed.
Most of these crime are several decades old, and dioceses have taken many steps to stop these things from happening in the future. I know there’s a zero-tolerance policy in my diocese. No clergymen currently in service in my diocese has ever been accused of sexual misconduct if any kind and, if there are any accusations, that priest is removed immediately and investigated. Also, there is very serious vetting that goes on before someone is allowed to attend the seminary now.
Once again, the crimes committed by priests of the archdiocese are heinous and reprehensible and should never ever happen to anyone. That being said, the archdiocese has a right to do PR control to try to mitigate the damage in the wake of the scandal as long as they’re not hiding any crimes or enabling any future ones.

Just because it's not illegal doesn't mean it's right...
A lot of folks will read this as the Saints org tried to help coverup pedophilia.. that is bad

And this is how you downplay the rape of an 8yo boy.
The priest should of been hanging from the rafters of the super dome.

You’re absolutely correct. It’s no different than the billions of Catholics who continue to tithe and go to weekly mass and venerate their local priests even after the scale and depth child abuse cover up was widely known.
Hell five of our nine Supreme Court justices are devout Catholics who allow the Catholic Churches doctrine to significantly influence the way they interpret laws and make rulings.
You can have your own views on how to judge current devout Catholics who continue to support and lift up the church in a variety of means, but unless you apply the same judgment to all of them Gayle did nothing different

If using official NFL logo correspondence in any way espouses the league as a whole to possible liability in a suit from victims or if laws were broken by the Saints FO while acting on behalf of the New Orleans Saints franchise this could become a major problem for the Saints.
Any attorney worth his salt working for these victims has to be on this story with a fine tooth comb.

100% agree. but since that won't happen I take comfort in knowing he will face the ultimate justice with a millstone around his neck.

Absolutely nothing
This is a coordinated attack on the Saints organization and there needs to be an investigation launched.
The timing alone betrays the obvious.

Under the umbrella of the Saints, Ms. B, Dennis Lausha and Greg Bensel help cover up pedo priest.
God doesn't like ugly and I'm getting down voted on my previous thread,

I cannot agree with you. This is bad. Not oopsy daisy bad HO LEE FUKKK bad.
The NFL does not mess around with negative PR. Trivialize it all you want, this is horrendous PR. There will definitely be repercussions over this. I’m not saying GayleB will be forced out, but I imagine that is on the table. There will have to be a public response/punishment from the league.
If you believe this is a “Catholic witch hunt,” get ready for your world to be rocked.
At the very least, Bensel and Lauscha will be the fall guys, but I’m not certain GB can get away with that alone since she is clearly complicit.

It doesn’t have to be criminal for it to be gross as hell for a professional football organization to be involved in.
You want to get guys removed from a pedo list? Get your own attorneys and PR, not one affiliated with a sports team.

How fricked up do you have to be to label the saints as the victims in all of this?
I hope you’re just trolling man.

It's not a crime. Why does it have to be a crime?
Why would anyone want the Saints to help with that?
Seriously, why would any sane thinking human being, let alone Saints fan want their football team to help the Catholic church put a positive spin on their long running track record of covering for child rapists?
Maybe the Catholic Church deserves bad PR, for a long time.
Hit job...what a joke.

And what would be reasoning for a coordinated attack on the saints ?
You don’t want your name associated with helping pedophiles then maybe don’t help pedophiles. This isn’t something cooked up out of thin air to bring the saints down, Gayle and Dennis put us in this position

True, criminality really isn’t the issue for the Benson organization. It’s about using influence to control and limit the iinformation made public about heinous criminal activity by priests . That’s not going to sit well with the public or the NFL…

1. The report says that the Saints made recommendations of names of credible offenders to be taken off the list. That crosses the line from helping w PR to influencing investigation.
2. Why are the Saints helping w crisis management? I agree that organizations have a constitutional right to defend themselves against accusations and to hire specialists to help in that regard. So….why did the Saints get so deep into this? Why didn’t they simply say, “ you probably should seek the services of crisis management specialists”. The fact that the Saints brass got involved bc “ they talk to media regularly” seems like they had liability to cover up.

What some of the articles put out there may not point to crimes, but it looks pretty bad for the Saints & the shield. Was a thread on the more sports board where it had comments that made it appear that the Saints front office had say in whose names would be publicly released and had pulled names from the report. They also had quotes that showed the Saints using their strength & influence (holy shite it they tried to use the league’s $$$ & influence) to spin the information printed
