Can anyone here recommend a good transmission shop in the BR area?

Transmission on my wife (no pics) Armada has went out. Or wont shift past 3rd gear anyway. Looks like i have a decision to make on to get it fixed or bail on it. I think it’s the valve body (from searching the Nissan forums) but I’ve not had luck finding a shop that will change it without just wanting to put a new transmission in the truck. It’s only worth about 12 grand and id hate to drop 4-6 on a transmission ugh.

We went 40 years with the standard GM auto transmission having two forward gears.
PS: You bought a vehicle assembled in Canton, Mississippi. You expect good craftsmanship?

I had my transmission repaired at Caps transmission on Florida a few years ago. It is still working so i guess they did ok.

How many miles does it have on it? Is it worth just replacing the valve body yourself and hoping it works out?

103k. Trending that way just the part is 1500 from Nissan. So idk. YouTubing doesn’t seem all that hard, but it never does til your elbow deep in trans fluid while laying on your back in the driveway

had Cotton's Transmission sponsor a softball team back in the late 70s, hope this helps

You just need a different gear box ratio, that's way cheaper

Transmission Service Connection on Plank Rd behind airport. Used them recently and they were great.

The transmission guy at Burbank Tire (corner of Staring and Burbank) is excellent. He's an actual mechanic and can diagnose and rebuild if necessary, as opposed to just swapping.
I think he may have been at C&R before they got new owners, but don't quote me on that.

Second this. Burbank Tire does quality work, usually for less than other shops, and will not do anything you don't need done.

My first choice would be Dennis at Burbank Tire. He was at Interstate Transmission way back in the day until Mr Bill passed away. Now he works out of Burbank Tire and will definitely give you his recommendation on the best route to take.
Second choice is Powertrain Specialties. In Prairieville.
Third Choice would be Prevost Transmission Repair in Independence.
With the type of sales Im in, I go into just about every shop in town on a regular basis. After a few visits, you can quickly figure out where you'd bring your own personal vehicle to and which ones you wouldn’t. Id have no hesitation bringing my vehicles to these shops for transmission work.

The entire transmission needs to be rebuilt at 103k miles. The valve body is clogged with small debris and metal shavings that is why third gear is stuck.
Is your car solid and worth the thousands it will cost for a qualified person to swap it out? New torque converter, blow your lines clean, change fatigued mounts, the job is going to be expensive.

For sure not. It’s only worth 12 on a good day. It ain’t worth 6 for a new transmission
