MLB is definitely protecting Ohtani

Federal prosecutors disputed claims by Shohei Ohtani's former interpreter that he stole from the slugger to pay back massive gambling debts, saying there was no evidence he suffered from a gambling addiction before he started draining the Los Angeles Dodgers star's bank account, according to court documents filed Thursday.

Its obvious this is happening and its Ohtani with the addiction to gambling

He’s the driving factor in ratings for an entire country. Of course the MLB is protecting him as he’s worth $$$$.

It is interesting. I don’t think ratings, interest in the league, really changes at all in the US if Ohtani gets popped. In fact, it probably causes a short term gain in interest and then goes back to the same level.
Are people really going to stop watching a regional product because some Japanese dude was gambling?

No one believes the interpreter was stealing from Ohtani and betting. He was making the bets for Ohtani.

It’s interesting because this was all put out there are this guy robbing ohtani to gamble but he may have just been robbing ohtani.
idk why this makes Ohtani look
worse.
If this guy was his cover for gambling he would have been placing bets the whole time.

MLB definitely does not want the press from it’s biggest star being involved with a gambling ring and serving at minimum a lengthy suspension

It is insanely obvious from the moment all of this started coming out.

The press from covering it up seems worse to me, but I understand the premise

People will either accept the story that’s been fed to them or just forget about it in time.
I think the bigger implication from the (likely) real story is it could threaten sports gambling right as those revenue streams are opening up for every league. Ohtani isn’t Calvin Ridley or Terry Rozier.

This report literally says the federal government is doubling down on its sentencing recommendation and that they only thing they are disputing are the claims made by Mizuhara

My holdup is the wiring of the money
I send international/domestic wires for work and there are levels of approval that have to be given. I don't send anywhere near the amounts being wired by the interpreter and I have to get someone else to confirm.
I just don't believe he didn't know a single thing about it.

Exactly

Posted on 1/31/25 at 9:38 am to ShaneTheLegLechler
Because he's using them as extenuating circumstance to said sentencing
Baseball obviously has every reason to sweep this under the rug and protect Ohtani. I just don't see why the actual federal government would

Bird in hand. That investigation was much bigger than the Ohtani piece of it too if I remember

I mean there’s a recording of him impersonating Ohtani transferring funds out of his bank account.
Y’all want Ohtani to be the bad guy so bad

It’s not like MLB has ever protected blue blood teams from things they had proof of while burying evidence and then prosecuted another team for doing a far less egregious thing…

I don't think that's true. Frankly, I don't give a shite if the guy was betting on other sports with a bookie. As long as it wasn't baseball it's really not a big deal. Or at least it shouldn't be.
On the other hand, it's fair to call out that the story hasn't made sense from the beginning and it's fairly obvious lies are being told. Everyone had to change their story as soon as the lawyers got involved.
My personal favorite is when they claimed Ohtani didn't understand the apology the interpreter gave in front of the team because of the language barrier. I mean come the frick on

Yeah, how much of this is protecting Ohtani and how much is protecting the Dodgers?
