Part of my new position in my company requires me to move somewhere in either Texas, Louisiana or Mississippi. My only experience living there was 10 years in Shreveport. I'm originally from South Alabama so I'm familiar with the Gulf area, but now that I have young kids in school I am unsure where to live.

I figured the best place to get advice would be from the super smart members of the OT. It's mainly work from home minus trips to refineries or chemical plants anywhere in the 3 states.

So if you could live anywhere in those 3 states with 2 young kids, where would you go?

Not Louisiana

Are your kids going to public or private?

If those are my options Id do Miss Gulf Coast or Fort Worth

That would depend on the state and schools. I honestly never expected to be moving back from the Carolinas.

Texas and it's not even close. Quality of schools, the economy, no state income tax, etc. We live in The Woodlands (suburb north of Houston) and love it. I'll never live in Louisiana again.

The very first place I looked was Conroe and Cypress. Wanted to see if I was missing any hidden gems.

How close to the Gulf? If you have to live on the Gulf with kids, Ocean Springs has really good schools

I thought Cypress had gone downhill a lot last few years

I'll have to check that out then. My entire extended family lives in Gulf Shores. Would be nice to not be 9 hours away for a change.

The Woodlands is good if you have kids. TLAT Mrs Lith hates Texas so we left after my father died. He had ALS and moved there for a while to be close to him.

If you’re putting your children in Catholic schools, then New Orleans is the answer. Texas property taxes are too damn high and ALL government schools are bad. ALL !

I really disliked my time in Texas, but Texas is still the easy answer here.
