Opinion of the board on Greek life? I think it’s a mixed bag.

I do admit to being a GDI. There was no way my parents were going to want/help me pay to get in somewhere dedicated to the art of drinking. And shite was outrageously expensive at Bama unless you had a shite ton of time and help with money. I’m not a hater of frats, I just never was going to be able to join one without pissing my parents off or without their help.
The older I get, the dumber frats seems to me. Not in the “Hurr your paying for friends hurrr” way. Just something about the attitude of it I think. A lot of unearned arrogance, that kinda looks silly when you get a little older and come back for games. But it really is just silly, I don’t blame the kids for being a little over the top.
BUT, I appreciate them as a bulwark against the blue-haired culture BS that wants to take over every campus. Definitely rather hang out with a group of Frat dudes than a bunch of Marx-reading degenerates.

I went to a mid-sized university and did Greek life. It was fun, cheap, and made a couple best friends. I don’t think I would’ve done Greek life at a big university however

Was never in one but most of the folks I knew in them were good dudes
Their test bank was helpful in PETE

Yes, but it’s 18-22 year old males, that’s what they do.
Absolutely loved my experience and has helped me both personally and professionally. Guys in my fraternity live all over the world and do all sorts of shite that can help me. Doctors, attorneys, private equity, cpas, etc, etc. I likely would have never known most of them.
And when you’re that age they’re fun. I’d encourage it for any non dork

The guys I knew in frats were always good dudes too. But you could always bet that they’d bring up their frat in every other part of the conversation and always came off like they were in on something that you weren’t.
Which they were, I don’t blame them
but that’s kinda what I’m saying where it was just silly in retrospect. They were always solid dudes.
Which they were, I don’t blame them

Five University of Alabama fraternity members were arrested on charges of hazing other students, officials said Wednesday. . . .
They were being held pending $1,000 bond at the Tuscaloosa County Jail, the university said in a statement.
Their arrest follows an investigation by the university into allegations involving the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.
Colter K. Anderson, 21, of Dallas, Texas; John Patrick Buckley, 21, of Houston, Texas; Hunter Lee Wagner, 20, of Huntsville, Alabama; and Richard E. Markwalter, 20, also of Huntsville, each face three hazing charges. Mark Allen Powers, 20, of Athens, Alabama, faces one hazing charge.
It follows allegations that the members of the fraternity made pledges stand in buckets of ice and salt, causing burns on pledges' feet, The Birmingham News reported. Those details could not be independently verified by NBC News.

I was in one at Alabama. Very big Greek school. I was out of state so the fraternity was like my second home. I am friends with many of the guys to this day. We had a lot of out of state kids.

If they’re under 25 maybe? If they’re over 25 and do this they’re losers

I was a GDI, and I always thought I wouldn't have fit in in one in college. Too many things they cared about that, I couldn't care less about. However, my post-college friend group is about 75% greek, and we get along great, so who knows.

Nah I’m talking about my experience in school a few years ago. I graduated in 2021.

I was a member of the biggest fraternity around--the US Army, and in Armor--the Combat Arm of Decision for over 20 years.

I wanted to branch out when I got to college because I grew up here. Once I got to LSU and joined a fraternity with people from all over, I made countless life long friendships with people who really cared about me and had my best interest in mind at all times, and I felt the same way about them. I know that sounds cringey, and I also hate a lot of the douchey people associated with Greek life, but it really can be a great experience.

I did it at Alabama and made good friends. Nobody should take it too serious after the first and second year.

Loved my experience, it certainly enhanced my time in college. I would do it again and would recommend it to any one going to college. I also know it is not for everyone and not everyone has the same experience.

Depends on your interest. I went to college to get an education and advance my career. I also worked part time during school and full time during breaks and summers to avoid loans.
My priority wasn’t partying as I played sports and had a good time doing all that in high school.
To each their own tho.

Sorry NERD..you'll have to wonder about how much fun it was because you couldn't get in one.

I do not talk to any of my HS friends. I talk to like 10-15 of my fraternity brothers still. I know I’m unique in that sense, but my experience with Greek life was an overwhelming positive
