The border has always needed to be a military operation, cops can’t do things like that because they’re not trained to do things like secure a border!

I will say this - in 2 trips to West Texas I was stopped 4 times by either local & state police and by border agents. They do their jobs well and I was proud of their excellent efforts. On all 4 occasions it was simply because my license plate light bulb was out. Haven’t been stopped in La. for that a single time in 8 months.
I pass through a couple border patrol stations on the way back from my snake-catching spots, and on one road I pulled over and ran across the street for a snake around 1 am. A minute later I had a border patrol truck following me to the station just because I must’ve looked like a “runner”.
And every officer at every level has been the nicest I’ve ever met - complete opposite of most La. officers I’ve dealt with.

As a veteran who has personally worked on the southern border under Trump, it was a time where I felt like I got to do my job in a meaningful way and not a single other soldier I was with ever wanted to leave.
Many said they would reenlist if we picked the mission back up because they loved it so much.
Also of note, while we had a number of drug runners and such, a very large number of the people we picked up were women and children abandoned in the desert by their coyotes. Border patrol needs all the help they can get and shutting down the border effectively saves lives.
