Yesterday the wife(no pics) and I decided to take my 3 year old grandson to the video arcade(also making a comeback?) just to give my daughter a break. I haven’t been to a mall in over ten years and couldn’t believe how busy it was and most of the stores were still open. My wife told me young people were coming back to the malls because a lot of popular shows like Stranger things showed 1980’s type malls and how they used to be the happening spot for social interaction. One more tidbit the wife mentioned do you notice that a lot of the kids in the malls weren’t on the their phones and unbelievably they were not. Anybody can confirm my finding or am I just wishing the days of food courts and video arcades are back. I know CSB and no pics of the daughter either.

In certain parts of the country they can be viable. That’s about all I’m going to say.

For the most part, they never left the Houston area. The Woodlands Mall and the Galleria are just as good as they’ve ever been

My 12 year old asks to go a lot to a few stores.

Seems like a lot of things are coming back. Physical copies of music, going to places to get things.

For a generation where everything is digital and remote for a chunk of their formative years it makes sense that they want to experience tangible things.

I am not going to lie but the mall I went yesterday I definitely thought it was toast the last time I went there. A lot of the stores were closing and the customers weren’t exactly there to buy stuff.

There are fewer of them, so the people that want them are concentrated at a single location where there used to be several.

Example: Pick any midsized or large city.

Went to the galleria (in Hoover, AL) for the first time in years at the beginning of December. Was pleasantly surprised by the foot traffic, lack of obvious ratchetry, and not as many stores closed as expected to see. No idea what the solution to keep it open will be but surely somebody can come up with something.

Where they have shitty weather, no competition, and good demographics.

Lakeside Mall is the standard and has been for decades. I have no idea why it thrives while so many malls have failed across the country.

The new mall was kicking pretty good last few times I went. Not as much for the department stores though.

IDK - but more than once I've gone to Mall of La recently and got annoyed by the lack of parking on the side of the mall we wanted to go to. It was busier than expected.

Looks like they are turning the old Sears into one of those giant new concept stores from Dicks Sporting Goods. So I guess the smaller DSG store across the street will eventually close.

I know right. My twenty two year old son also met us in the arcade we played a lot of the 3 or 4 player seated shooter games. We would swipe the card for our player to start up and ghost my grandson’s slot. Little mofo had a gun in his hand and was shooting blanks but he was happy as hell while me and my son were dropping zombies.

Stranger Things was released almost a decade ago. If malls were coming back because of that show, it would have happened already.

Indoor Malls are not coming back. Even outdoor malls need to be absolutely pristine and offer high end shopping as well as coveted dining to be viable.

LSU Health Shreveport is converting the old Sears at Mall St. Vincent to a cardiovascular research lab.

Dillard's is one of my go-to's for men's clothing. Baton Rouge has a solid Dillards. Never been big on Macy's, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus.

We used to go to Woodfield and Oakbrook malls when we lived in Chicago. Both of them are huge but no Dillards that I remember. The Oakbrook one was partially an outdoor mall, which kind of sucked in winter.
