Watching Tiger hoops can be frustrating as hell. You tune in to last night’s game against Alabama and they come so close only to falter in the end. There are many thoughts voiced on this forum why this is so because every LSU fan wants to see them succeed. They seem destined to land in the cellar in a strong SEC. Player recruitment has been discussed as an area that McMahon has to address otherwise his tenure as head man is dubious at best.
Yet, the talent level is, I believe, is adequate to compete. Sure they can bring in another piece or two but the real problem is McMahon’s X and O’s. The Tigers are long and athletic but once they can’t finish they settle into a moribund half court game that sees them hoisting 3-point attempts late in the shot clock. A recipe for failure. They lack a point guard with vision that could get every one involved. Perhaps Carter can assume the point and get better flow to the offense. Givens has been a disaster and clearly is not ready. A disturbing look at the timeout late in the second half showed an LSU assistant feverishly diagraming a play with McMahon watching and adding nothing. Coaching is the problem.

They are really only long and athletic at 2 positions, the 4 and 5.

Very few teams have such a player. They are hoping that Givens develops as such.

I cant think of a worse idea. He is a very good shooting guard but turns it over a lot as is.

This happens with every team, every game. Is he a great coach? Maybe or Maybe not. But each team has staff that cover different aspects of the game.

There has been so much bad basketball played for so long, that I can’t see me ever being interested. I once was, but like with the Saints, after so many years, you find other things more compelling

The difference in the game last night was 3 point shooting. Period. LSU competed in every level last night but you can’t shoot 13% from 3 and win in the SEC much less anywhere else. Coaching was not the problem. And Chest and Collins are starting to develop an inside game which is what they lost when Reed went down. With the addition of Green that may start to change but last time I looked coaches weren’t shooting the ball. AL was supposed to score over 100. AL was supposed to win by 40. And yet while they were battling and competing with #4 team on the road , where a lot of ranked teams have gotten rolled, there were people on this site bitching and complaining. Such losers.

Shoot better.

Last night we made 3-23 from three point range. Bama made 7-23 at home. If we shoot that wel we win!

TOs both teams 14. Rebounds we got two more. We were pretty even.

Last night the coaching g was fine. Our D was good. The energy and toughness were fine. We just got out shot.

Now that was just one game, but I think it brought out our biggest issue. Poor shooting.

LMAO

I don't know where you guys come from...seriously. It is obvious that you never played the sport at any significant level. Very obvious. I guess other schools have the same type of ignorant fans...but geez, we sure seem to have the dumbest. You could take coach K in his prime and not win with this team. If that is on coaching, so be it...but the real issue is talent.

Isn’t the Head Coach responsible for the talent he puts out on the court?

Certainly.

But people here act as if we have a loaded roster and the problem is coaching, in game coaching, etc.

Yes, MM needs better players.

That’s not true, nobody has said the roster is loaded but it’s definitely a top half roster.

What top half of SEC team has worse shooters? Also, what top half of SEC doesn’t have a point guard with a higher TO to assist ratio?

What is “for so long”?

I do remember this place LOATHED Will Wade. We played backyard ball and he knew nothing. All while the ncaa was trying to end his career we would be in line to get a 4 seed and end up with an 8

The fact is that lsu basketball fans are very very bad an uneducated…much like football. Our baseball fans are the only ones who have a clue

But Jan's at Miss State who was hired at the same time has put together a great roster.

MM has under performed period as a Coach.

LSU has the YOUNGEST most inexperienced rotation in the entire league. Fact. Go look at the 8 man rotation of every SEC team we have played. You’re lucky to find one freshman in the rotation. That matters in this league. If you want to criticize McMahon for recruiting freshmen and playing then go for it but to take that team on the road and compete with Ole Miss, TAM and Bama says something. Reed would absolutely make a difference in a few of these games. But this team cannot afford a poor shooting night from its guards. 13% from 3 beats you every night. That ain’t coaching.

If you think production automatically equals talent then you don’t understand what either is.
