If McCarthy backs out then the clear path forward is to hire Rizzi, immediately fire Loomis and reevaluate the HC position after the new GM is hired.

a full reset including a tank season could be best long term.
would the Saints really a fire a coach after 1 year though?

Honestly at this point nothing should be off the table if Gayle wants to not totally lose control of the whole show.
This situation is going to force her to be an active hands on owner for at least a year or two. She does have advisors not connected to the team currently though.

Last time she was hands on as business owner her decorating business was bankrupt and she was delinquent spurring multiple lawsuits.
We don’t want that, just sell to Fertitta or hand the keys to Rita.

Anyone who doesn’t think loomis and our current cap situation are detriments to attracting a coach are fooling themselves.

I think you guys are going to be surprised.
Mickey is not some de facto owner. He has not special spell cast in the Saint organization. Gayle is one of 32 owners and the owners are a business called the NFL. Of one area of the business is failing that make decisions that keep the whole business moving forward.

It’s interesting but not hopeless if McCarthy says no.
Smackin Mickey has to nail this hire or he’s toast. It might take us a couple years of suckage, but the Saints can emerge from even this dark cloud. I’d rather see them succeed, but shedding SMickey is a pretty big deal.

Just to get under the cap by the start of the league year, it's going to mean more restructures & extentions for washed up players like Cam or Mathieu which in return is continuing to kick the can down the road. Loomis has made it were the organization has no choice but to do so.
They can't even release older players because they can't afford to absorb the cap hits. Can't sign any game changing free agents with limited cap space. This all was obvious to anyone who truly understood the overall dynamic of the situation which in return made the position undesirable.
The head scratching part are the posters who constantly say well there are only 32 of these positions available so that should mean that the team would get one of the better coaching names out there. No one is forced to take a head coaching job just because it's available especially if it's one where you are set up to fail. A first time HC definitely isn’t going to set themselves up to take the fall when things go wrong nor will a guy like Kingsbury who was fired from his first HC job. Coordinators can take other jobs, stay at their current jobs while other coaches on the market can sit & wait a year for the next hiring phase.

Interesting how things can change.

Then either she needs new advisors or she isn’t acting on recommendations. Either way it’s horrible.
I’ll give some free advice: Sell the team.

TANK
Yep. Pick Warren this year.
Then tank this season with your eye on a franchise QB next years draft. Should be a strong QB class.
Trade or release all aged vets along the way.

They aren’t hiring Rizzi.
It’s likely we get Kafka or Weaver. I could see McCarthy going the Vrable or CSP route and sitting out a year.
