I mean this is certainly a big part of why the media attacked him so hard.
But yes, he was a really bad owner. There are a lot of bad owners in American sports who don't get the same attention as he did, though.

He ran what had been a premier franchise into the ground and seemingly went out of his way to be a raging a-hole to anyone and everyone he crossed paths with.

There are tons of bad owners. This guy was put on the shite list for some reason beyond being cheap with free agency and having a crappy field/stadium.

there’s a reason the owners were happy to kick him to the curb and it has nothing to do with the team name

There was a laundry list of alleged stuff but few was workplace violations (especially involving women), hiding money from other teams instead of splitting with them, deceptive money practices with his minority partners.
I know the name was a long standing issue, but I don’t recall it being reason for selling. One of his minority partners (Fedex owner or whatever) only brought it up because Dan tried cheating them.
I might be off somewhat, not looking up the whole naming rights issue

This, but I also have to save a little angst for Jack Kent Cooke. He left the team to his foundation with orders to sell. While it was his to with what he wanted, his son likely wouldn't have destroyed the franchise.
I grew up as a Redskins fan. My team no longer exists.
