Baton Rouge Travel Question

I need a little information about traveling west of BR in a couple of weeks. I'm in Alabama and am traveling to Houston. Google and my Maps app on iPhone has me routed to get off I10 in BR and go north of BR on 190 and then come back down to Lafayette. Is that correct? Something closed?
**Updated** Understanding is that the bridge is closed due to the snow this week. Thanks for the information.

They are keeping the older federal roads open because they have less raised sections. Interstates are to hard to keep de-iced with our limited equipment.

Where in Bama?
Can you do I-20 and then roll down to Houston on highway 165 after you cross the Mississippi River? You'll get a speeding ticket in Rapides parish, but you won't have a problem with snow.

Bingo.
I-10 over the basin is a massive elevated section that ices over very quickly in just light snow events - and this was not a light snow event. There is 6-10 inches of snow on it now.
I kind of wish they'd have built it on a berm and then had a few 3-4 mile elevated sections. It would be easier to keep open in icy weather and MUCH cheaper to widen to 6 or 8 lanes (and that will be needed within 10 years).
I know it's basically a spillway, but US190 is mostly on a berm, within a ring levee area, or on smaller 3-4 mile long elevated sections that are easier to keep open. Not great for the environment, but that section of highway is reliably less volatile than I-10.

190 is the way to go, the old bridge is open. I think they’re required to keep at least one river crossing open. The ferry is another option if you don’t want to risk the bridge

probably not a bad idea to bypass the basin bridge in the best of travel conditions

Sorry but I should have said travel in a couple of weeks.
First week of Feb y'all shouldn't look like New Hampshire down there.

Unless you’re traveling through Baton Rouge on a weekend or middle of the night, you’ll want to avoid the traffic at all costs.
Also, always check if there are any issues on the basin bridge before blindly going through there. Could add hours.
Hope this helps.

Thanks... I can go north of BR and get south on a route farther down the road. I didn't realize BR traffic was so bad.

Lack of situational awareness confirmed.

in a couple of weeks.

in a couple of weeks? I would guess and say there will be no snow on I-10 in a couple of weeks.
