Looking at buying a new side by side. Need something that could pull a trailer but also be fun to take trail riding.

Currently between a Defender HD10 and a Ranger 1000 but interested in hearing about the General

Any pros and cons for either or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Kawasaki Teryx 750, and it’s perfect for both

I went with Yamaha rmax4 1000. Fox shocks and gps.

Rear seats slide forward and can be completely removed in 10 minutes when needed.

Good time to buy new. I should have waited 6 months.

It’s not a dune jumper but can tow a surprising amount.

Really need to figure out what trail riding means to you. Even the utility machines these days are capable of handling and going way faster than I care to. You can spend as much as you want now, so it’s a matter of figuring out what you actually want it to be able to do, so you don’t pay for stuff you don’t.

I have a Ranger 1000 (non-XP) and it’s a very different machine from a general, which a buddy has. Let me know what specific questions you have.

I would stay away. I had a 2020 XP1000 premium that had nothing but electrical problems. Also they have a brake pressure switch. When that bitch goes out there isn’t anyway to start. Mine left me in the woods twice.

Very limited experience but one of our contractors uses Kawasaki Mules at plant sites, and they seem to be pretty nice plus they look more like a work vehicle than a douche-mobile like most side by sides nowadays.

I’m not brand loyal to any of them but between friends/hunting buddies I’ve been around all the major brands except Kawasaki. To me they’re all about the same, as long as you aren’t sinking it in the mud and do routine maintenance it’ll last. The ones that have left people stranded are Yamahas that used the natural wire insulation, mice love it. They’ve since corrected that and it was only a couple years, but goes to show anyone can make a lemon.

All manufacturers use the coating now. All of them.

The yamaha rmax is perfect...except it's too loud.

The general is very reliable... And quieter. The problem eith the general xp is price. It's just expensive.

With my Rmax gone I'll either be going northstar ranger pr kawasaki ridge.

Unless the new Honda HVAC released later this year is just outstanding. ... I doubt it.

2seater or crew?

If it’s just a 2 seater I’d look at the Kawasaki Ridge.

True but my Ranger less than 2 years old had it go out twice. There isn’t a bypass and then part is $200. Polaris wouldn’t warranty it even though I had an extended. They called it wearable maintenance item. I’ll never own another Polaris.

Who is your dealer?

Someone screwed up.

Mine was replaced on my 21 rzr as a recall item BEFORE it ever hinted at failure.

There is a bypass btw if it fails again. Search for prcforum brake start bypass that works. The guys copied the honda start in gear mod

Based on my experiences with Kubota, Polaris, Club Car, Bobcat, and Kawasaki at our plant……..
Kawasaki all the way.

Can't go wrong with any of these. I have had two Ranger XPs and both never gave me any issues. I will say it's worth it to get an XP over the standard 1000. My buddy has the 1000 and it won't go places around the camp that the XP will go.

Just know, these things drive way more like a small truck than they do a 4 wheeler. When you have springs rated for 1000lb of payload they don't have much give. They are great for doing work in a pasture for sure, but not so great on a trail. (Imho)

The suspension is what I’ve been most impressed with on the Ranger. I drive pretty fast on some not so well maintained logging roads with and without weight and it eats it up. My old fourwheeler would knock your teeth out on a water bar. You sure someone didn’t mess with the preload?

Thanks for all the input

I’m leaning toward a Kawasaki KRX4 1000. Sounds like its biggest negative is they are not super fast, but they are extremely durable with good warranty coverage. Anyone have experience or friends with one?

Dude we must have very different definitions of fast, that thing is going to be able to do 75 mph.

If you’ve never actually done it, 35 feels like flying down a logging road.
