The Kansas City Chiefs are headed to their seventh straight AFC title game after knocking off the Houston Texans on Saturday. That victory didn’t come without controversy, most notably with the questionable officiating.

It sparked an online debate on whether the Chiefs had surpassed the dynasty New England Patriots as the most hated team in NFL history. The Patriots had a chokehold on the NFL for nearly two decades with six Super Bowl wins.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs have added three more Super Bowls to their collection since Patrick Mahomes has been the quarterback. Social media was flooded over the weekend with fans calling out the officiating for consistently favoring the Chiefs.

Even Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman appeared to be frustrated with the officiating when in the booth commentating during the game.

There is clearly Chiefs fatigue right now in the NFL, which is something Patriots fans can understand from their incredibly long run on top. With that said, have the Chiefs surpassed the Patriots as the NFL’s most hated football team?

Patriots were hated more.

They got caught multiple times cheating and even they got the calls against the Chiefs

Chiefs don’t need to cheat because the referees won’t allow them to lose unless NFL says so.

People hate it when the same team seemingly wins it all every year.

Pittsburgh was that team in the 70s, San Francisco was that team in the 80s, Dallas was that team in the 90s, New England was that team in the 00s and 10s, and now Kansas City is that team in the 20s.

People always get sick of winners quickly.

The overexposure of Mahomes, Kelce, the Taylor Swift shite, and the consistently sketchy officiating has certainly turned up hate though.

Unsuccessful people hate successful people and successful teams, a tale as old as time.

I want to see the Bills and Commanders in the Super Bowl, but I wouldn’t be upset with KC. Just not that trash from Philly.

Not for me. I know some KC fans who are great people and passionate about their team. Their stadium and atmosphere is awesome. So for that reason alone, Chiefs > Pats.

To me, it isn't that I hate the team or the players. I hate how the NFL is acting around that team.

They are making blatant calls in their favor on a weekly basis for the past 2 seasons. That makes people hate the team

I liked Brady and the crew just fine. I also think Mahomes and the crew are amazing, and I have always liked Andy Reid.

I just can’t watch the NFL bc they are destroying their product rigging games to protect them. I get it, it’s “entertainment”, but the blatant game fixing is way too obvious that it takes the fun out of watching. If every team and their QB got the same treatment I might have stuck around, but that’s not the case. Based on the replays I see weekly, this year has been a lesson on how to rig an entire season aiming for a specific result.

I think so I had to laugh - couple of guys at work were Patriot fans.....at least that's what they said, but when Brady went to Tampa, not so much, they were really Brady fans.

Fast forward to yesterday one of them was talking about Mahomes getting critical calls that were questionable. It did not seem at all to him ironic that he as a Brady fan was saying it. I just had to chuckle.

They very much don't want him to surpass Brady's playoff/SB records.
