Imagine telling someone 10 years ago the Village People performed for a GOP president

What a timeline

Kind puts a real damper on those critics who say Republicans hate gay people.

I just find it funny that YMCA will now forever be associated with Trump. Like this silly song from 40 years ago is now this real part of history.
And the best thing is that Trump has even added a dance to it apart from the iconic original one by sheer force of will

The Village people apparently were Kamala supporters, fought Trump over using the song, but performed for Trump tonight.
Oh and YMCA is steadily climbing the music charts.

Dems obviously severely overestimate how much Republicans “hate” gay people. The average republican does not think about someone’s sexuality unless it’s been forced in their face, like the last few years.
Dems who thrive off of identity politics think we are the polar opposite of them in the identity politics game. When really Republicans don’t give two shits about identity as long as weird shite isn’t being shoved down throats.

The GOP has been running far away from conservative, Christian values for a while now. Abortion is heading that way, too, with the amount of Republicans who have suddenly become apathetic to it since RvW was overturned.

Because dancing & listening to YMCA = running far away from conservative, Christian values?

There are already a few posts on here recognizing that Republicans don't hate homosexuals. I don't think anyone should be hated, including homosexuals, but the point seems to be that the "tent" has been made bigger over the past decade or so, where Republican Presidents once ran on anti-gay marriage policies and now homosexuality is fully embraced.
For example, Trump celebrated pride month in his first term, was proud of the LGBTQ+ support he received, and even nominated the first openly homosexual cabinet member.
My point is that the GOP has become almost entirely secular and the "moral majority" of years past is nothing more than an inconvenient voting bloc these days. Where Christian voices were once prominent, now they are encouraged to keep their religion to themselves.

Gays not being rejected by the GOP sure has made the tent bigger. Thats different from homosexuality being fully embraced. And to say anyone in the Republican Party is asking Christians to “keep their religion to themselves” is ridiculous.
It’s just we live in a crowded world, and if we want the best for the country, we should accept that.

Didn't one of the guys from the Village People say he was fine with it because they were making royalties as it climbed thru the charts?

It isn't the real/original Village People performing for Trump. The only original member is the policeman, who had been kicked out of the band by other original members. Saw an interview about it the other day.

quote:Perhaps, but on the surface it doesn't seem to be much of a difference. Homosexuals are being actively courted by the party without any qualifications. Pride month is recognized and celebrated even by GOP politicians. There's no desire to seek to overturn the Obergefell decision, to limit adoptions for homosexuals, or anything remotely related to what was fought for or against prior to Obama's presidency.
Gays not being rejected by the GOP sure has made the tent bigger. Thats different from homosexuality being fully embraced.
quote:How is that ridiculous if it happens? It's the natural consequence of making the tent bigger. Courting Hindus and Muslims and homosexuals will be at odds with Christians. This may seem like a positive move for the GOP, but the result is alienation of devout Christians. Maybe that is seen as a benefit, but that would only further show my concern about Christians being minimized in favor of other groups.
And to say anyone in the Republican Party is asking Christians to “keep their religion to themselves” is ridiculous.
quote:This goes to my point. The more "open" you are, the more conflict you'll see between factions under the tent. It is what has happened to the Democrats, where they have essentially pitted feminists against trans people, among others, due to their intersectionality merit badge system. This will continue to happen for the GOP, as well, with the expansion of the tent.
It’s just we live in a crowded world, and if we want the best for the country, we should accept that.

We are all sinners. All of us.
Trump has sinned. We have all sinned. I am a sinner and pray for forgiveness.
Christ took in the tax collectors and other sinners. Why not be like that. It is not the well that are in need of a physician.

quote:I agree with all of that. Amen and amen. The problem, though, is that Christ didn't just eat with sinners, but He called them to repent. He wasn't a physician that didn't cure the sick, but He made them well.

My point is that the GOP is not just visiting the sick but allowing them to continue in their sickness, affirming them in it. Jesus didn't do that.
