What will college athletic dept revenue sharing look like

Will be interesting to see how title IX factors into this.

Also, place future bets now on basketball schools like UCONN, GONZAGA, MARQUETTE to continue dominating the hardwood

The Dept or Education issued a memo last night providing guidance stating revenue-sharing payments from schools to athletes must be “proportionately” distributed to men and women athletes, or institutions risk violating Title IX

EDT: Obviously this is the outgoing Dept of Ed. So I suspect the timing is not coincidental and they know the incoming Dept. of Ed may be VERY different in the way it conducts business. I suspect the new Dept. of Ed may see thing differently and not be so bullish on the position that the backup RF on the softball team should received an equal share of the revenue provided to the QB on the football team...despite the fact it is the football team that generates the largest portion of the revenue.

IMO, its a partisan politic virtue signal from the DOE knowing that in 3 days their positions are irrelevant. But you can bet every dollar you own that a group is going to challenge the revenue sharing proposal that gives football and men's basketball a larger portion as a violation of Title IX.

I’m wondering if you’re going to see small schools that aren’t successful in football start to axe the programs to dump their money into other sports

Hopefully, "proportionately" means proportional to the revenue generated by each sport and not proportional to individual payments.

It’s not. It’s flat equality across the board. This does not include Collectives though. This is just the university revenue share portion. Collectives will continue to get to divide up their pie how they see fit

Yep.

Revenue sharing is a step. But it is not the end. Far from it.

Fortunately, you have a new administration coming in who understands business principles and the marketplace, and doesn't subscribe to the idealistic virtue signaling farce that all college athletes should be paid the exact same simply because they are college athletes, without any regard for the realities of the marketplace.

Right. LSU Quidditch athletes should not receive the same as LSU gymnasts in revenue share. LSU gymnastics brings in a lot more money.

Like I've said in another thread look for schools to reclassify certain sports programs that are not profitable as "Clubs." Going to be a lot of players taken off scholarships in order equal out the financial problems this will create.

I mean they’re more of a basketball school than LSU. Dominating though is a far stretch I agree.

5 final four appearances
4 national championship games
1 national championship

LSU

4 final four appearances
0 National championships

The only sports that should be allowed to fund scholarships are the ones that can pay for ALL their operating expenses ON THEIR OWN.

As I've said for years, there are only two sports across the board NATIONALLY that can do this. Quite frankly, all the other sports SHOULD be club/intramural.

But one might say " there are only a handful of athletic departments that operate at a profit"!!!

You'd be correct. But that wouldn't be the case if the athletic departments could cut the fat and were run as a "bidness" to quote the great Billy Sparks.
