Copper Mill Bunker Renovation

Copper Mill is doing a full bunker renovation starting at the end of the month. They are going to put in the Better Billy Bunker System in all bunkers. This is the system that after all the bunkers are shaped and scraped a layer of pea gravel is installed, permeable epoxy is applied, and coarse bunker sand specifically designed to work with the epoxy is added. This will make the bunkers consistent throughout the course. Also they will be having a sprinkler head audit to help with not over watering areas on and around greens and adding French drains to areas that are constantly wet because of water run offs.
They will going from around 50,000 sq feet of bunkers to approximately 27,000 sq feet. Every bunker will get reshaped at minimum. Most large bunkers will be broken into two more manageable smaller bunkers. A few bunkers that were previously filled in will brought back to help with aesthetics and add challenges to a particular hole. Some bunkers will be sodded and turned into grass bunkers. The contractors are starting on hole one and working their way around the course. The project should take about two months to complete. No holes will be closed during the process.

Great news. Their greens are in really nice shape right now. Glad to see the bunkers are next on the list.
Next up they need to cut some trees down near #2 tee box so grass will grow.

Alot of their tee boxes need trees trimmed around them.
Also I think Santa Maria is doing the same thing to their bunkers.

CM just need to install a netted hitting area now similar to Webb for folks to get some full swings before a round
The course is back to a good/ great track and good to hear about the bunkers.

Lot of courses up here in Missouri have done this, it’s a great system and makes a lot of sense for Louisiana which gets a lot more rain. They drain great

Greens are the best in the area right now. Wish that course didn’t kick my arse so badly.

Their greens look ok but they are hard AF. Shots roll forever with any shot not hit with a wedge.

If getting a ball to stay on a green or near a hole is your problem that’s not the greens fault. That’s a spin a trajectory issue on your end. I play with guys over there that routinely go under par. I’m pretty sure that they are holding greens.

They are getting more receptive. I’ve fixed more ball marks in the last month than I did in the entire first 16 months since they reopened. Little pitches still don’t grab like at other places with mature greens, but it’s slowly getting better. They are rolling great right now.

So the only reason his shots aren’t holding the greens is because he has a spin problem?
It can’t be because the greens are hard, because your buddies shoot under par and that wouldn’t be possible if the greens were hard, right?

I hate SM bunkers right now... whoever decided to put beach sand in there should be shot.

This is great news. I've never seen the long term of how the bunkers hold up with this system in place but the immediate outcome is a great bunker.

I got the Copper Card last year and this year and have been playing the course more regularly. I didn’t used to like it all that much, but it does have a number of nice holes. The layout and hole design have grown on me.
