He was in and out of jail on a Sunday night within 90 minutes. This was 1000% a lawyer and law enforcement working together. Us regular folk would’ve been picked up a long time ago and sitting in jail for a minute.

So, if it was a bus driver that he killed it shoulda been 150k and a marine should be what, a million?

You’re smart

means he only paid 15k to the bail bondsmen. bail numbers mean nothing when you only have to pay 10% service fee. bondsman gets his money back as long as you show up for trial.

Not uncommon at all if a lawyer is involved before the arrest. Turn-in and bail are negotiated and arranged in advance all the time for “regular folks” who have counsel that reaches out and makes contact with law enforcement.

Pretty sure the negligent homicide charge carries a 10 year max sentence. Not like he’s facing life and/or shown to be a flight risk, so the bail amount seems reasonable in the situation

Bail isn’t meant to be punitive. It is a guarantee that the defendant returns to court to face charges. Flight risk and danger to the community are the main considerations in granting bail. He has strong ties to the community and family here and it wasn’t an intentional crime of violence. Pretty sure he had no prior record. So the bail was likely appropriate.
