Castaldo grew up in Brooklyn. He once worked for the U.S. Postal Service. Castaldo served in the Vietnam War. He was homeless for almost two years, staying at Penn Station. He found a job at a newsstand in Manhattan and acquired subsidized housing in Brooklyn. [4][5]
His first cameo occurred when he was asked to move so that a shot could be filmed at his newsstand. When he refused, he ended up in the scene. At the time, Castaldo was homeless and suffered from alcoholism. He would often heckle actors who passed by his newsstand.[5] He began visiting movie sets in 1989, starting with The Fisher King, in which he met Robin Williams.[4] He was able to locate film sets with the help of Teamsters or by finding "No Parking" signs that indicate an upcoming shoot.[5] In the 1990s when he was drinking he was arrested and had a 6-month evaluation at a psychiatric hospital, but he continued to visit film sets after his release. He gave up alcohol and has not had a drink since. [5] As of 2004, he lived in Brooklyn and earned money from selling autographs[8] as well as from his film appearances.[5]
According to The New York Times, he is a life member of the Screen Actors Guild and "knows the whos, whens and wheres of just about every film production in New York."[5] As an actor, he typically plays homeless or disheveled-looking characters.[5]

Still sounds like a Hollywood script.
But a better version of anything Hollywood could write today.

And I bet he fricked Will Smith’s bald wife too.

Seems like a character Robin Williams might play.
Seriously, he's got a backstory that rivals any 'made up' character.
Who'd play him today, I wonder, if a movie were ever made that had him as a character. (Someone other than himself, I mean)

I worked a set in Macon, Georgia a few years ago that desperately needed spur the moment background talent and didn't have enough crew to pull double duty (as they'll usually use crew when they don't have time for a rush BG call).
So one of the ADs had the bright idea of asking some of homeless guys if they wanted to make a little money. Like that's how desperate they were. But it went as expected...
Half had no form of ID, others didn't know how to read or write (which means they couldn't fill out a voucher). They had to send some of the male costumers to dress them because they were harassing the females. One fricker couldn't dress himself and needed "assistance" but none of the costumers would touch him because he smelled like Rosie O'Donnell's pussy.
When they landed on set, their job was to literally stand in one spot as deep BG. That's it. Only like two didn't wander off. None of them could follow basic direction. Some of them discovered crew crafty and raided it (crew crafty is separate from BG crafty and like a buffet compared to what the BG is given). One of the guys walked off set with two armfuls of snacks. Not even an hour in, half the degenerates had completely disappeared.
But the highlight was when one bum recognized Ron Howard during a take (he was directing). Bastard ran over screaming how big of a fan he was and was trying to give him a hug. Howard handled it well but you could tell he was fricking irate.
It was the funniest shite I had ever witnessed on set. Some of the guys were even talking about shooting making a short film based on it.

Better choice than I was expecting.
Shia LaBeouf came to mind.

Dude has been a lot of Adam Sandler movies. I was in NY back in '04 behind the Ed Sullivan Theater after a Letterman taping & saw Sandler walk out to his car with the Grandma's Boy dudes. Radioman was there & Adam told him to follow him to his hotel on his bike. Good guy.

Or he’s just a schizophrenic guy who likes movies.
