Nutty Putty Cave Death

Some of y’all already know the story. But I just found out about it. I don’t usually watch anything to do with cave spelunkers or explorers. I’m way too claustrophobic to ever try anything that stupid.

If you’re claustrophobic, this story will turn your stomach and make you want to puke.

Dude was 26 years old and hadn’t really done any cave exploring since he was a kid. So he, his brother and a few friends were in Utah and decided to go to Nutty Putty Cave and

quote:

Everything went smooth for an hour or so. The party had explored the largest room in the cave, aptly named the Big Slide. Soon, John, Josh, and two of their friends decided to take up a challenge they had heard about – namely passing through the Birth Canal, a narrow and challenging passageway that eventually opens up into a larger room. John went first: he wriggled forward for some time but did not see any larger area. He continued to inch forward, but the narrow passage did not come to an end; instead, the squeeze made a sharp downward turn. Confidently, John pressed forward, perhaps noticing the tunnel got wider at the bottom, but it was already too late.

Hell no!!

quote:

In any case, John kept pushing through until he couldn’t continue. To top things off, he had wriggled into a fissure that went nearly straight down, which made him unable to turn back on his own. The narrow crevice he was trapped in measured 10 by 18 inches. This size is comparable to the opening of a front-loading washing machine, except it wasn’t a perfect circle and he was stuck in the tightest part of the opening. Trapped more than 100 feet below the ground, and deep inside the cave, all John could do was wait and pray.

He was stuck like this for 27 hours before he finally suffocated and died.

This makes my skin crawl. They tried everything they could to get him out. But he was wedged in and not going anywhere.

After he passed away they closed up the cave with him still in it and put a memorial plaque at the entrance.

People that do dumb shite like this are insane. I feel for the guy’s family. His wife was pregnant with their second baby. The kid will never know their Dad because of a stupid accident.

There’s a YouTube channel called FatalBreakdown that has a great video on it.

Prepare to get sweaty palms.

People that do that shite are beyond stupid. I don’t care that it’s for the adrenaline rush. It’s a stupid, selfish thing to do. And I have zero empathy for the idiots that die because of it.

If the saying “play stupid games, win stupid prizes” ever applied to a situation, it’s shite like this.

I am as adventurous as the next baw, but a man has got to know his limitations (Clint).

Yeah I am not really claustrophobic, but my arse is not trying to fit into every nook and cranny of a cave like that. That show definitely reinforced the fact that my fat arse needs to stay in caves that have plenty of head around them.

I prefer to stare at caves from the outside. I also don't jump out of perfectly good airplanes.

An ambulance service in Australia had to come to the rescue of a woman who "got herself in a spot of bother earlier this month" when she became wedged between two boulders while trying to recover her dropped cell phone. Matilda Campbell slipped into a 10-foot-deep crevice in the region's Hunter Valley and spent about seven hours stuck between the massive rocks before rescuers finally freed her with just cuts and scrapes, officials said.

I'm not saying this necessarily applies to this guy, but if it wasn't for people with an adventurous spirit like this we would be stuck in the middle ages. How crazy was Columbus to sail off into uncharted territory looking for the new world? How about the first astronauts and test pilots? Stupid as shite, but they did it, and we're better off because of it. Again, I think this guy was a dumbass overall and I'm not legitimately comparing anything he did with the others I mentioned. But again, it takes an adventurous spirit and maybe even a certain lack of self-preservation to get things done and forge new pathways.

If this one freaks you out (and it freaks me out big time) then don't, or do?, look up the Paria diving accident.

For some reason I developed claustrophobia as an adult.

That type stuff never bothered me until I was 30 or so, now I hate to even ride in the back of someone else's car, get an MRI etc etc etc.
