I'll be the one to say it: Skiing may be the most overrated thing on earth

There are some people that form their whole personality about skiing and live over 1,500 miles away from the nearest Colorado mountain. They are on par or worse than marathon runners. I've done it before. Was it fun? Not really. Is it worth the money all in for everything? Not at all.
I don't get the hype. I hate 0 degree temp. I hate the altitude. Ears constantly popping and unpopping. I don't like the lines. I don't like how much effort it takes to make one step in 2 feet deep snow. It's like 40 regular steps. Hangovers seem to be worse in the mountains. It's repetitive. As a 2 time skiier, I feel like I'm going to kill someone when going down. Pizza does not slow me down, it does not work. I'm not doing it wrong, it does not work. I don't get it. I think people like it because other people like it, and it's in a rich town so it's considered an elitest hobby. Not because they actually like it.

Sonny Bono would agree.
I have never been snow skiing and I think you perfectly described why!

You're doing it wrong

definitely a status symbol thing for a lot of people in flyover country

I’ve never skied. I imagine the feeling of tearing that would accompany me doing the splits after slipping on them, and it makes me never want to try.

you're definitely doing it wrong. I don't enjoy things I'm not good at either. Skiing is very fun if you know how to ski. I don't see it being very fun if you don't. Also don't see it being very fun if you don't like cold weather.
And no, I don't form my whole identify around skiing. I used to go once a year, although it's been a few years due to COVID and us adding two children to the family, but started skiing as a teenager. It's a good time

Sounds like there’s a $ issue here more than anything

I went to Breck last Friday after the parking lots at keystone were full. The place was crazy packed. 95%+ of the people absolutely suck at skiing/snowboarding.
I suck at golf. I couldn’t imagine making a vacation out of this activity.

Lemme guess. You don’t like the price of the lift tickets

Ran into a high school kid today who was watching my neighbor's kids. He said he was grabbing some skiing clothes from them for a snowboarding trip, and he admitted he'd never been on a ski trip.
I wished him luck, told him to have fun and to watch his knees.

Great thing to do if you want to be injured horribly whilst wasting an extraordinary amount of money.

pro tip, go to Canada or Europe. It's actually cheaper than going out west. You'll spend more on your flight to Europe obviously but save money on everything else, and it's a cooler trip in general

I really hope this attitude catches on

that's two words. He was also skiing through trees. That's not something most people choose to do. Most people who get hurt are doing things they shouldn't be doing
