I know everyone on here thinks the only way to win is to tank and get the silver bullet QB that suddenly makes your owner, front office and players great.
But the last few year we’ve seen that building a team and bringing in a talented QB that was discarded can be a path to success. Examples are Goff in Detroit, Baker in Tampa, Darnold in Minnesota, Geno in Seattle, Stafford in L.A., and Wilson in Pittsburgh.

Let’s say we kill it in the draft the next two years and get a stud DE, a great DT, OG, a #1 WR and some secondary help. What young QB should be brought in to lead that team a la Darnold/Goff?

Trey Lance? Justin Fields? Zach Wilson? Sam Howell? Malik Willis? Desmond Ridder? Kenny Pickett? Will Levis? Daniel Jones? Mason Rudolph? Mac Jones?

If possible, I would love to let Carr go this offseason and sign fields. It most likely fails miserably, but who cares? Draft one top 10 next draft

none of them with this current roster and not knowing who the head coach is.

That was why I was angry about the Carr signing. They wanted him to be bridge QB or more, but the Saints and the D kicked the Raiders arse with Carr at QB in 2023. 24-0. With DA even as the head coach. DA wanted to sign him because he drafted Carr originally. Just because you know someone better or have a history with them in some way doesn't necessarily mean that will work. The coach that wanted Carr isn't here anymore.

I think Daniel Jones may stick around in Minnesota.

Imo we should just build the lines (offense and defense) for the next two offseasons and don't force the QB thing. Focus on getting the financials in order, get our uniforms and field decor top 5 in the league and try to be 3-14 the year that young Arch Manning enters the draft.

Goal should be to have a top 3 offensive line when were ready to draft our young QB

I think I’ve told you I think this approach is going to become more and more popular as teams are basically forced to make their decent but maybe not elite QBs basically the highest paid qb in the nfl with this market.

Unfortunately I don’t think any of those dual threat guys are nearly good enough passers to make a similar jump.

Baker, Darnold, Goff all we’re top 3 picks overall and have pretty significant arm talent.

Maybe Zach recovers a bit but he just seems to REALLY lack the confidence to lead grown men.

An interesting and likely cheap guy to me was Howell. For a really young guy he wasn’t afraid to stand in the pocket and just sling the ball in 23. They were outmanned and their defense was a sieve so he was constantly just chucking but with a bit of time I thought he’d maybe be able to play a bit.

For this type of experiment to work I think we will have to have a very capable OC or HC who is up for this kind of reclamation project.

Yah ideally I'd love to go into next season with like Spencer Rattler and Zack Wilson but I know Gayle and Mickey would never

Putting Stafford in that list with those other guys doesn’t feel right to me. He was a perennial pro bowl talent before leaving Detroit.

I don’t think we need to cut Carr. Just build up the offensive and defensive lines and try to find a #1 WR. By that time, Carr will be 34ish and his contract will expire. Draft a QB if you want, but also find your Darnold that can take over a hopefully young and talented team.

LA was building up with young talent of which Goff was part of. The QB just needed to be found to take the next step. If Rodgers would have worked out for the Jets, I would include him on the list too.

We are probably closer to the Vikings situation. Carr is our Cousins. We need to find our coach and Jets.

You realize we are literally using that approach right now?

Derek Carr is the experienced QB we were trying to make work with an aging still good defense and offensive weapons.

This would've been a great post minus "get our uniforms and field decor top 5 in the league"

You don't have to further screw up the salary cap to do that.

Just sit Carr him let Rattler take over the show.

First you have to figure out wtf is going on in the scouting department and fix it this off season.

I prefer to tank, but I was trying to tell the Saints on here to get Baker over Carr two season ago. Baker always seemed to have the ability to be great. Carr is who he is which is average, but he doesn't elevate to being great.

Agree on sitting Carr. Not opposed to taking another QB on a rookie salary as well.

IMO Heaner is not on the 2025 roster so there will be a spot for another young vet or rookie to kick the tires on.

A poster was crying about Carr getting old and hurt now so we should cut him. Why do that when Rattler will just fill in and yiu can see what yiu have with him. Getting rid of Carr just screws our cap up longer.

No. We should def plan for the future though drunken dumbass. Which is why a QB that drops Sanders/Ward is a take, or a JJ Mcarthy trade is a take. Or a Justin Fields etc. which this post is about.
