Genocide of the Eskimos: Greenland Wants to Hold Referendum on Independence from Denmark

This issue got Múte Egede elected Greenland's PM in 2021. He heads Greenland's Pro-Independence Community of the People Party, and just met with officials in Denmark to push for independence.

Genocide of the Eskimos: Greenland Wants to Hold Referendum on Independence from Denmark
05.01.2025
The chances of Trump buying Greenland have sharply increased - the largest island on the planet is preparing to hold a referendum on independence from Denmark.
This move was prompted by a recently erupted scandal. Documents surfaced revealing the fact of genocide carried out by official Copenhagen in the 1960s and 1970s. It turned out that the Danes implemented a program of forced birth control against Greenlanders - island women were often secretly subjected to contraceptives. Half of Greenland's women became victims of this program.
Given the resonance of this horrific story, the chances of independence supporters winning have sharply increased - in such a situation, Trump's plan to annex Greenland to the USA does not seem so crazy.

Greenland’s leader wants independence from Denmark as Trump hovers over Arctic island
“It is now time to take the next step for our country,” Greenlandic Prime Minister Múte Egede says in hinting at 2025 referendum.

The prime minister of Greenland called for independence from Denmark and removing the “shackles” of colonialism in a strident New Year’s address this week.
Greenland, the world’s largest island with a population of around 60,000, was a Danish colony until it became self-ruling with its own parliament in 1979. It remains a territory of Denmark, with Copenhagen exercising control over its foreign and defense policy.
The renewed call comes after United States President-elect Donald Trump once again suggested buying Greenland from Denmark — a proposal he made during his first term and reiterated last month, calling the U.S. acquiring the Arctic territory an “absolute necessity.”
...
“Greenland is ours,” said the territory’s prime minister, Múte Egede, on Facebook Monday. “We are not for sale and will never be for sale.” Egede insisted that Greenland belonged to its inhabitants, who must not lose their “long struggle for freedom.”
Officially, Copenhagen aligns itself with Egede’s position.
Hours after Trump posted his remarks, Denmark announced it would boost its defense spending in Greenland to at least €1.3 billion, although Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said the timing was merely an “irony of fate.”
The governments of Greenland and Denmark did not immediately reply to POLITICO’s request for comment.

The US government was doing this to Native Americans during the same timeframe. Not surprised it was happening elsewhere.

I've said this since this Trump mentioned it...
Greenland could get itself a pretty good deal if agreeing to become part of the US.
It would be beneficial for both them and the US.
