A few months back I remember asking this board about educating me on the PRC Rifles. Well, I ended up buying the 6.5
Well I got the gun and put a Vortex Viper PST 6x24 on it. Got it dialed in. Proceeded to put a beat down on hogs for the next couple of days and it was awesome.

Just wanted to say thx for the advice from that post. My boy is quite happy w the new rifle.

I’ve got 2 rifles in 6.5 prc, a Christensen and a Savage, it’s a great hunting round. From accuracy, to light recoil, to no tracking; it’s just in that wheelhouse of best all around caliber I have. Lent the savage out to two different hunters this year, and they both harvested deer with it, they couldn’t stop talking about performance…

A lot of people won't admit it because they rather overpower their caliber choice to make up for a lack of fundamentals/precise shooting, but the 6.5PRC is probably one of the best cartridge choices for this entire continent.

Congrats to your boy for some great shooting with a nice gun!

Thanks Ruger! I'm loving it so far. Haven't hit something that hasn't bit the dust lol.

I wanted a gun brand we didn't own, and a caliber we didn't own. Just so happened to like this one, and man i've been well beyond impressed!!

I’ve beat it to death, my 15 year old daughter has christen arms 6.5prc and it’s a death laser.

I'm still thinking of converting a Savage Striker handgun from 243 Win to 6.5 PRC for next season's deer hunting season. I'm thinking w/ a 16" barrel I could hit 2800-2900 fps w/ 130 gr Nosler Acccubond. What load are you using and what kind of accuracy do you get??

That would be wrong. People don’t mind giving the 6.5 PRC it’s due. It’s the 6.5 creed that got way overrated and overhyped. And the creed is good for what it is, just not a world beater.

I’d disagree with that. People worry too much about headstamps and don’t blame bullets for their failure. The 6.5CM is easily one of the best all around cartridges there is, especially with the wide array of bullets available. You can shoot from 100 to 156 grain bullets. You can shoot near 3k fps or slow it down to 2650 with a high bc/sectional density bullet. It earned its place, the problem is dumb people doing dumb things and wanting to crap on the cartridge instead of looking in the mirror.

143g loads and it’s wow. It’s like Rize says, it’s a death laser.

Coke can at 125 yards is disintegrated.

The 6.5 PRC is the modern version of the 270 win. There’s nothing wrong with progress (sharper shoulder, higher BC), but it’s doing the same things that made the 270 what it is; a 140 gr doing 3000 fps is the best of everything.

Agree 100%. I’ve been shooting a .270 for 15+ years and killed a bunch of deer and hogs with it. Don’t have any reason to look for anything bigger and better. I’m comfortable with this rifle and will keep using it.

.270 win is still wayyyyy up there on highest point blank range. It might still be top 3 for stuff with a regular bolt face.

People get rid of their .270 to get a 6.5 creedmoor because "it's sooooo flat" would be sorely disappointed by the comparison

I own a custom 270win. 110gr barnes ttsx kills deer like lightning out of it. I won't buy Hornady calibers knowing the rifles I have do exactly the same or better.

I've been looking into a new bolt-action after helping a friend with his new Savage 6.5 Creed a week ago. Looking into Tikka, Howa, Savage, Ruger, etc and I really like the T3x. Looking between the UPR and Super Varmint. Not a whole lot of difference between the two aside from triggers and maybe the SV has a slightly different barrel profile. I'm not a hunter though my friend has been bugging me to go on a few hunts in Texas and I'm thinking I might go one of these seasons. How does your rifle feel with the 6.5 PRC? I'm not recoil shy nor am I looking for something light weight for game stalking. I want something I can put some range time in with though and I do reload.

I have the same scope on a Bergara 6.5 PRC. I’m a subpar shot but can ring a 12” x 12” plate at 1000 yards now that I have it dialed in.

With what these weigh and an aftermarket recoil pad you will be fine shooting a couple boxes. Take a look at the CTR as well.

Super Varmint is nice because it is threaded 5/8x24 from the factory. I have one in 223 and it’s a tack driver. I did remove the black plastic piece on the foreend and replaced with an Arca rail. I don’t think you’d need a recoil pad on a 6.5PRC if you’re not recoil sensitive.

270 is a great legacy gun, I still have one, but one of the advantages of the 6.5 calibers is both can be ran in a short action. More people are more familiar with short actions and their components. 6.5PRC was invented more for precision and long range target shooting, but has crossed over greatly in the hunting realm. It’s why all of the 6mm bullets used are the heavy for caliber bullets. Same thing you’re getting with 6.5/7PRC. Can shoot a heavy for caliber bullet out of a 6.5PRC at 2850-2950 fps.
