2025 is here and us baseball fans are excited to see what the season brings. I'm going to look at three categories: pitching, hitting and defense.

Pitching: Top 10 for 2024 were: Jump, Holman, Anderson, Herring, Guidry, Hurd, Ackenhausen, Ulloa, Little and Helmers. Not a bad group.

Now let's look at 2025: Shores, Anderson, Ware, Guidry, Schmidt, Evans, Eyanson, Rizy, Noot and Mayers. (There are other pitchers on the roster I like a lot and some of them I didn't list will emerge.) I really really like this group and I believe Sunday pitching and the bullpen are going to be a real strength.

Shores was good in the fall but I thinking he will progress even more as the season goes on. If he can reach his potential this year we will have a dominant Friday guy. Evans started hitting 98 at the end of the fall and actually topped Shores for highest velocity in the fall. I like Evans as much as highly rated Schmidt. Roles are yet to be determined but I can see those two as our closers and very good ones. Eyanson was working on some development in the fall and I'm looking forward to what he brings in the spring. Rizy is 6'9" with good body control for a guy his size. Noot- progressed as the fall went on but still hasn't hit his high ceiling, I'm hoping we are going to see Noot's potential in the spring. Mayers has control issues and it is going to hard for Jay to trust him and Jay likes control. There is a ton of potential with Mayers though. Jay has mentioned him twice as someone that could emerge. Look at some of Mayers stats from last year: 106 strike outs in 70 innings, .165 opponent batting average against, averaged 5 hits in 9 innings, good for 3rd in the nation.

It looks like a really outstanding group and it runs deeper than the 10 I listed.

Hitting: Look at this potential lineup:
CF Curiel
2B Milam
1B Jones
DH Priester
LF Brown
3B Braswell
RF Larson
C Hernandez
2B Dickinson

That's scary and we have more offensive potential not listed. Arrambide was outstanding in the fall, Frey Stanfield, Reaves, Pearson brothers and Hogg.

Frey's power is back BTW. The shoulder injury limited him last year.

We lost White, Travinski and Neal from last year but Braswell and Jones returning are huge for our offense. Brown, Larson and Milam only look to improve on outstanding freshmen seasons. Priester has a lot of swing and miss with him but the power is legit.

This offense is going to be fun to watch.

Defense:

We have some holes on defense but nothing that I would consider a liability. Jay will choose offense over defense and that shows will all four of our catchers. They all have power but none of them are Milazzo defensively. So defensively catcher might not be top notch.

On the infield it's going to be Jones, Dickinson, Milam and Braswell in some combination. The problem is Milam, Dickinson and Braswell are all best suited for 2b and will probably play there in pro ball. Whoever ends up at SS will more than likely not be a top notched SEC SS. Like I mentioned, I don't think it will be a liability either. I believe all three are capable of being solid there.

We should be outstanding at CF with either Stanfield or Curiel. Overall OF should be pretty good.

Overall pitching should be outstanding and I love the bullpen. Hitting is just going to be fun. I wouldn't rate our defense as outstanding because Catching and SS are to important and we are a notch behind top notch at those two positions.

This is definitely Omaha potential team. If we make it to Omaha, pitching depth will serve us well.

No way of knowing this.

If there is one I think I know about LSU baseball in general, it's that more pitchers are going to get hurt or falter over living up to the immense hype.

Remember at this time last year, we were penciling in Cam Johnson as a weekend rotation guy.

Dorsey didn't shine in the fall but he's one of the guys I think could emerge in the spring

All three of them guys have more potential than Jacob Berry and Tommy White had at 3B. It might not be stellar but we should be okay there

For sure, expectations and reality are two different things.

Stacked

A couple of my random thoughts as I've been doing through write ups.

1) Catching is arguably the biggest unknown and for good reason.

2) Does Frey start showing power? 0 HR's in close to 80 collegiate at bats.

3) Does Schmidt settle in as the Sunday guy ala Nola in 2012.

4) Braswell, Milam, and Dickinson are all going to start between 2B/SS/3B respectively. I still have doubts as to where Johnson is most comfortable with each defensively.

5) Guidry is starting to get stretched out. Could he have a Jared Bradford type role so to speak.

If catching is "a notch behind top notch" I'll be pleasantly surprised and will start looking forward to Omaha

I was able to catch a batting practice where they were showing exit velocities. Priester hit 111mph and had several between 104 and 107. Frey hit 107 but had a few 104 or over. Everyone else that batted during that session was high 90's or low 100's. Jay mentioned Bear hit 114 in a practice that I did not see.

I didn't see everyone on the team during that session but Frey was easily number 2 behind Priester. I believe Frey also had a couple of HR's this fall. The biggest question is where to do you put him in the lineup to give him opportunities? He is going to have to force his way in. I like his potential in the OF but we know it's crowded there.

I think Dickinson gets first shot at SS but I'm not sure his glove will let him remain there. We will have to see. Braswell I believe will be option B and I don't think it is a bad option. Milam would be option C to me but it's not out of the question.

All four catchers need experience at the SEC level. It could take a little while before we settle there.

Totally man. LSU is known to not live up to expectations.

Was wondering about Pearson. Too much experience to not play some kind of role.

Josh Pearson seemed to be a little more patient at the plate this fall. So I believe he is working on his approach. We will see if that increases his batting average. The thing with Josh is you feel really good with him in a critical situation. He's not going to be overwhelmed by the moment. It's going to be hard to unseat Larson and Brown but I expect Josh will get his chances, especially in the post season.

All for naught if you don’t have SP depth for the postseason. We’ll see.

I don't think SP will be a problem we will have in the post season. Shores, Eyanson, Ware, Anderson, Guidry, Schmidt, Evans are all good options and Cowan would probably be effective as well if needed.
