Just got through kicking my own arse for being stupid.
I’m at a Tensas paradise my BIL invited me to. Got dropped off at a stand and buggy left with my pack. No bullets no snacks or water no fricking nothing!!!!
Didn’t plan on pulling the trigger unless a monster, and as soon as I can see he’ll show up. Brought my big camera to share some pics but they’ll be of the inside of my pack this morning. Guess I can throw my empty rifle like a spear.
Damn I’m stupid
Good luck fellas !

Yancey wma
57° slight NW wind
28 noz

In my saddle on a ridge in a swamp. The base of this tree splits into 3 separate trunks. My favorite type of tree to get in, especially during bow season.
Last year, me and a buddy were on our way back to camp from an evening hunt, I left my sticks and platform in the woods, he was trying to decide where to hunt the next morning. We came up on a huge buck trailing a doe across the road. I pulled up my maps and figured he was heading for this ridge. Told my buddy to hunt it the next morning. Got a text 5 minutes after legal “had a giant under me 1 minute after legal, couldn’t see through my peep, sent an arrow anyway and went right over his back”. Hopefully he’s back in here this year.
Side note: watch out for the snakes. Almost stepped on a blue runner yesterday, scared the hell out of me because I thought it was a cottonmouth at first glance. This morning, walked up on 2 ribbon snakes in some briars about 3’ off the ground.

This year in Missouri, I climbed a tree and got set up, only to find out I lost my release. Climbed back down and went drink beer. There’s no way I’m sitting in the woods without a functional weapon. Those big bucks are going to be pretty to watch this morning though!

Area 2. 52 light nw wind. Late season saddle hunt. Haven’t deer hunted in a month in favor of flying birds, but wife wants more meat before it’s over. Does will get it today. Guess rains have soured acorns seen some looking for food last week or two on camera.

Area 4
63F wind SE@2
Ground blind with thunderstick and Rage hypodermics 125gr
Tinks stinkin up tha woods

Activity has been way down at this spot but in the past a nice buck will just show up without having been on a camera previously

A large bodied 5pt was in here last week at 11am trailing a doe. I would shoot him as he is the biggest body on camera I have

damn the bad luck...I've never had this happen to me. My rifles are loaded with bullets in mags, just not chambered. I chamber when I get settled in the stand or climber.

Until last night when I brought it into the camp that’s been the case for years.
Completely unloaded and put ammo in my backpack out of courtesy to my hosts.

East of Brookhaven, Ms.
Box stand overlooking creek bottom. Got a big 8 who has cruised through here 2 mornings in last 10 days. Hopefully today is 3/11

Edit: it’s hot. It was 10 degrees cooler when I walked out to pee at 11 pm

I'm back in the deer hidey hole about a mile into a pine plantation with my 30-06. It's 54 degrees with 10 mph winds from the west. When I left my house this morning it was foggy and still. Complete opposite of where I am hunting. I didn't see any deer from the highway driving in and was feeling optimistic. This wind is changing my optimism.

Area 2
.270 boom stick

Took another hog with the 6.5 Grendel whisper stick last night.

Im thinking of getting the .270 threaded and investing in a folding chassis mdt or something. I think being more mobile in the pasture may help. I already use a RRS anvil 30 head for the tripod for hogs at night.

Last weekend we were running a group of does. They passed by my son twice and he only had 1 box of buckshot. You’d think 5 bullets would be enough, nope. He killed one but used all 5 rounds. The run lasted about another hour. He had to stand there with an empty gun and just listen. He came on the radio and said “I’ll just try to hit ‘em with my gun if they come out”

I got out way too early, in the tree more than an hour before legal shoot. I just wake up, when I'm up I go. Windy and getting cooler. Had a doe go behind me at 715, couldn't get a shot. Hoping that wasn't my only chance today, but likely it was. You baws in the rut need to waft some of that hot doe stank up here for me.

And I'll add that while I love this tree and spot - I can hunt 360 degrees around me - the 360 degree spot is a lot of neck work. Especially with all the wind noise, I'll have to see something.
