do you parents still instill any discipline in your young'uns?
Posted on 12/30/24 at 9:40 pm to OWLFAN86
No, because nobody left the table until everyone had finished their meal
Posted on 12/30/24 at 9:43 pm to OWLFAN86
So long as I had eaten all of my food including vegetables, I could leave.

We never ate when I was a kid. We were too poor.

Mom had some rules.
No hats at the table.
No singing at the table.
No hats at the table.
No singing at the table.

As long as the kids throw their tv dinner trays out the door and get them near the trash can they can leave when they please

I did. We don’t eat at the table every night like when I was young. I have taught my kids to ask to be “excused” when wanting to leave the table during Thanksgiving, Christmas, wedding, birthdays, anything more formal with guest or large gatherings.

Yes I did. I was raised with expected manners and being present at the dinner table.

Yes. No hats and food had to be finished from the plate. No wonder we were fat as shite as kids.

Yes, I did growing up.
My children also asked, “May I be excused” until they were teenagers. Once they were teenagers and realized how to read the table, wait until everyone was finished eating and starting to engage in casual conversation, they were allowed to say, “I’ll excuse myself”.
Edit to add: my kids are both adults now (one with two kids). Both my son and daughter (no pics) have thanked me for instilling manners in them.
To all parents: it doesn’t cost one cent to teach your children manners.
