Duck Hunting in NE, and SE Arkansas,

has sucked arse in both places. Screw DU and their record number of ducks. This is the worst year I’ve seen in 20 years. I’m done after this weekend and headed home.

I stopped supporting DU several years ago. Maybe I was spoiled by the number of birds we had in the 70's till mid 80's.....something has changed the total landscape of duck hunting in Louisiana and Arkansas.

Have seen some really good hunts in East central and central AR and some great hunts in OK, killed 4 limits before 8 type hunts.

My brother and his friends had great hunts last week around Rayville . My friend crushed them in southern Arkansas . We ain't killing nothing but spoon ies and divers in central Louisiana ?

We prefer you not come at all.

They kept upping bag limits and lengthening seasons when anyone who hunted back then could see the bird numbers crashing. Follow the money.

Great hunts can still be had but I don't think anyone will argue that they are becoming more and more scarce.
All you have to do is look at the MS/ARK/LA duck surveys over the past decade.
Either all these duck DU says exist are staying further north or there is less ducks than they are saying.
Sure some ducks aren't migrating like they use to but there is a lot of evidence the populations are and have been in major declines.

Worst year I’ve had since moving to NEA. Ready to sell all my shite and just deer hunt. Pretty common theme up this way.

We went to Five Oaks first split and had some great hunts. Our land in the MS Delta has been spotty. We need big fronts

Pretty sure nobody said this
The counts were up a little for certain species and down for others but overall lower than long term avg and probably lower than the numbers say
Need to go to 45 day season with 1 mallard hen limit
all the big money clubs with large acres and rest areas seem to be doing well in Ark this year though

Big front coming next week. Long lasting cold. Highs in Mephis will be in the 30s for a full week. Lows in the mid teens. Everything above St Louis will be locked up for the remainder of the season.
If we're gonna have some ducks, they should be here by about the 10th of January and beyond

Talked to some friends who went to Slick's earlier this season and had a terrible hunt. Been very hit or miss. I've been on some good hunts but it has been very spotty. I think the bird numbers are way down (mallards especially) and that's why a few people will have them and a lot of people will struggle with poor weather. I've been listening to the Standard Sportsman and I think a lot of their guests have it right with where the bird numbers really are now.

They haven't been that good in a while
A couple years ago it was so bad they were cancelling hunts
I'm talking about private clubs like White Oak or Coca Cola
Lost Island and 5 oaks are somewhat public but always smash them
Definitely agree with the guys on that podcast that numbers are way down - lower than reported
Specks is going to go the same way as the mallards if nothing is changed either

I haven’t seen a wild green head this year while in the woods which is cray. The good news is the Woodrow’s are back, baw.

Those two are among the few that generally have ducks even if nobody else does so I see what you're saying, although it's hard to tell with White Oaks as he does a good job manipulating social media. Buddy hunted there last couple of seasons and had the only good hunt on the place that day but by the pictures you would think the entire farm hammered them. Fowlers Point has been stacked this season from what I have heard.

I use to be in a lease across from the Coca Cola club. They hammered the birds. They’d be done by 8:00-8:30 most days they hunted.
I don’t know if they still have it or sold it but the Dobb’s family from Memphis owned it. I think they bought it in 2009 or 2010 for something like $8 million.

You're deluded. We don't have the ducks they claim. I hunted em hard up until 97-98. We had so many birds in the early 90's I could have filled truck beds everyday. I saw ducks everywhere I went in east arkansas.
Now, I see no ducks to speak of, and nobody kills birds to speak of.
What happened? I sure don't know, but my suspicion is that the native population is being allowed to kill far too many birds. I am 100% certain we are being lied to so we will keep spending money.

I've got three buddies that guide at Five Oaks. Place has gone through some changes. Hunting parties are smaller now because they've reduced the number they lodge.
They do hit their rough patches and were experiencing one when I was down there at the start of 2nd split.
I've never hunted their woods, but I've had several fantastic afternoon hunts in their pit blinds.

Probably push some bigs down to the big clubs and hot holes, will push(via ice) the few Woodrow’s we have to the local deep water.
Upon thaw, the OB will wonder where the ducks are, a few baws will post their buddies whacked and stacked on guided trips to KS and OK; then the short dicks will start asking for outfitter recs to get on the list for 25-26.
