Looking for a trip for me and the wife Iikely in April.
We are leaning towards a mountain town.
Neither of us are avid skiers, so we wouldn't be going for that.
I know April is off season, and I've heard a lot of stuff would/could be closed.
Anyone with any experience? Also, are there any other simar places that would be better that time of year?

JH Mountain closes tentatively on 4/13/25 this year. You could expect most if not all of the town to be open until then. After that it could be a crap shoot. Random restaurants closed early or closed on certain days. Same for shops, etc.
Most mountain towns are dead after ski season before summer kicks off so it’s hard to give you other options when most have the same issue. This is called mud season.

Yep. Most of the locals / mom and pop business use this time to go on vacation and recharge for the upcoming summer season. I did spend the month of April in Steamboat once and it was kinda fun.

obviously the town of Jackson will be “open” as will the vast majority of the bars, restaurants, hotels, etc. outdoors activities (especially hiking) may be difficult due to the mud. If you e never seen it, mud from melting snow is a whole nother kind of thing than rain water mud.
it’s the off-season for a reason but the town will still be fun

If you are locked in to April then I guess it’s fine but that is literally the worst month to go. Nothing will be open but you won’t get peak winter weather either (mud)
I went a few years ago the week before Memorial Day and things were just starting to kick off.

A lot of Teton National Park is closed til May.
I’d skip the mountains and go to the desert. April is prime time for the Utah National Parks.

That was also on our list of possibilities. That may be the better play

Resident of Wyoming here. Can confirm that spring is the worst season.

You can expect snow through most of May in Jackson Hole. It’s a beautiful place but I wouldn’t go late April through late May personally. It’s not traditional spring like said.
