This “soft invasion” would involve American special forces assassinating cartel leaders in Mexico, another source close to the president-elect told Rolling Stone.

Trump proposed a similar plan in private discussions earlier this year, Rolling Stone reported in May.

I’m sure Mexico will be perfectly fine with that.

Trump must have read Clear and Present Danger

It was Columbia, not Mexico, in the Tom Clancy version.

Playing devils advocate here,

what are they going to do about it if they dont like it?

You going to iron up with the US on our border?

I bet they do not.

Subvert the ops. Let even more people through the border. Drum up outrage at the UN. Thorns in our side, essentially.

Plus, I don’t know how anyone who’s read about the history of US relations with Mexico thinks playing whack-a-mole down there is productive. It has never worked. And we have tried it before—several times.

Taking out the cartel is a great way to make Mexico show their hand.

Targeted assassinations isn’t going to take down the cartels.

We’d have to occupy the whole damn region for decades to fully do something like that. Which obviously isn’t on the table because we aren’t going to war with Mexico and can’t afford it anyway.

Making an enemy of Mexico does sound unwise. China hopes we do something like this.

frick Mexico. I’d love to our Military obliterate the drug cartels. Would be good practice for them. Kill them all.

He did say he would use the full weight of the military to stop the drug imports.

I would never advocate it, but, I bet the Cartels could fix our immigration issues with the quickness.

Rolling Stone publishes some outright lies. I assume this is one too.

Why not just secure the border with the military? Also, “untie” the hands of the USBP.

The reason the cartels are so powerful is they feed Americas need for narcotics. Then they got into trafficking people across the border. It’s all about the money with them. Cut off their revenue supply then things will calm down.

Anything we've thought of on a message board, I'm sure Trump has also, and with much more information than anyone here is privy to.

I would say it's almost guaranteed that some type of action against the cartels will happen under Trump's term. Probably very select and surgical.

Do this and tax remittances starting day one so that you can claim Mexico "paid for the wall".
