Javien Toviano and safety question

If perk comes back do you think he goes to star and Toviano goes to safety. He always seemed to be a good tackler. I was hoping Spears and Toviano could turn the corner and improve our safety position. If not who are we looking at safety next year other than a potential transfer
Also praying Gilbert doesn’t see the field….

Toviano should definitely move to Safety or Star. He played Corner out of necessity and it's not his true position. He doesn't have the hip turn ability or top end speed IMO.
We're pretty stout at Corner now with Pickett coming in, Stamps and PJ returning, and adding Jackson and Delane from the portal. We need Safety play to improve, so I'd think he'll have to move there.

I'd like to see Ju'Juan Johnson play there in the bowl game. Sucks that we didn't RS him this year and burned a year of eligibility without him learning to play defense

Toviano should absolutely move to safety. He's big and physical and showed his freshman year that he can cover.
The problem was he got in trouble right before the season with the voyeur stuff and he missed practices and games until it was settled. If he was a veteran in the system, it's not as much of a hurdle to overcome, but he missed significant time and the entire coaching staff and scheme is new.
Hopefully we seem him and Spears in the bowl game.

Toviano is definitely more of a safety
The question is how good is he, because the coaches see him and he’s still not broken into any rotation to see the field

Not buying this. He got suspended and reurned in a couple days. He played in every game this year on special teams. Something else held him back and I have no idea what it was.

Doesn't mean he wasn't in the dog house

That is similar to my suspicion. My humble opinion is that even though he is on the team practicing and playing he must still be exposed to potential expulsion depending on case outcome. So I figured that BK put him at the back of the depth chart because they did not want to spend time not training up others at that position if he was subject to removal. In other words dont get dependent on him because he might be removed at an inopportune time. JT fid play some spot and mop up times but nothing regular.

Gilbert needs to be working at Wendy’s. I’ve had enough of his taking terrible angles and letting receivers dominate his a$$.

He was actually getting regular backup snaps at Star for a while, but we played more 4-3 the last 4 games and his snaps went way down.

Hopefullysomeone like Juwann can turn the corner and be a stud. LSU is due to have a safety emerge.
