Staying for a week over New Years….

What are some good places
To eat? Casual is fine…. That won’t break the bank for a family of 4 that eat like adults.

Bonus for local/authentic places…

Some good choices in this link. I was stationed @ Schofield Barracks years ago, lots of beach food…

Nico’s Pier 38
Fresh Catch

Went to both several years ago. Poke at FC was great. Nico’s was busy but a cool place on the water if I remember correctly. Both visited by Guy Fieri on DDD which is usually a list I check when I visit a new city/place.

I don’t have any specific suggestions as I haven’t been in many years. But a couple things I’d look for that are local:

Plate lunch
Huli huli chicken

Don’t sleep on the roadside fruit stands. Those little bananas are out of this world, and I’ve never been a big fan of bananas. Try as much fruit as you can because you will not be able to get the same flavors over here.

both of these are excellent. I’d also recommend a a chocolate haupia pie and some sandwiches from Ted’s bakery or some poke from foodland and doing a picnic at any of the north shore beaches.

This is a pretty solid list. Skeptical 5 days and hit most of these but wanted to hit more on the list.

Liliha bakery was amazing

We went in Maui and both the fish and pork tacos were excellent!

For a guilty treat, grab a haupia pie from a McDonald’s out there. The pies at the McDonald’s in Hawaii are all old-school fried. The haupia is legit delicious.

Local, authentic, good value:

The Alley at Aiea Lanes.

Yes it’s a bowling alley… and the restaurant is awesome. Featured on DDD, great oxtail pho, tasty chicken, and all the cakes. We like the carrot cake in particular.

Welcome to flavor town!
