So several days ago I was driving home from an event. I get several notifications on my watch and screen in my car about deposits being made into my Crypto.com account. Now since I was driving I pulled over and locked my account thinking it would be safe. The next day I contacted crypto.com to unlock (they have no phone number) where I spoke to a specialist who then disconnected me, after 5 hours of being connected and disconnected I gave up. The next day was much of the same. The third day someone was able to unlock my account after 5 verification attempts, however I can see my balance but no coins populate my account. I've been trying to solve this issue now for another 3 days. My BTC is on a ledger but this is a combination of SHIB, PEPE, DOGE, CRO, ALGO, MYRO, BOME, and BARA that is now locked up and I cannot trade, sell, or even purchase more of.

Just look at the Coinbase Twitter and see it's pretty common with any of these crypto "exchanges"

This isn't a horror story my guy.

You still have your coins, it just takes some verification to get to.

A horror story is "my girlfriend accidentally threw away my private keys".

Early on I took all my coins off exchanges and used a ledger.

I've verified multiple days in a row and every time they ask me to do something different:
- how do you access the app
- what were the last deposits
- what were the last transactions
- reset the 2FA
- reset the passcode
- change the email address
- send a video stating this
- take photos of your ID
- send video of holding the ID

Once I do one they ask for another then the start repeating what they've already asked. They refuse to give me a case number so when they disconnect I have to start over again.

This.

Not your keys, not your coins.

When your coins are held on a CEX, they own the rights to your coins.

In its quarterly report, Coinbase added a risk disclosure: if the company were to file for bankruptcy, the court might treat customer assets that the exchange is custodian for -- their Bitcoin, Dogecoin or whatever -- as Coinbase’s assets. And they’d be at the back of the line for repayment, forcing normal people, unaccustomed to the ins and outs of federal bankruptcy court, to claw back their money along with everybody else owed money by the exchange.

So for a beginner, what’s the best way to buy and hold bitcoin?

I wouldn't ever hold it because I don't believe in Bitcoin as an investment so you would get better answers from the crypto thread. So get that out of the way.

Otherwise the only way to hold it is not for beginners and that is a cold wallet. Everything else is pretty much at risk because even the majority of ETFs use Coinbase as their custodian.

I would never hold anything on any crypto exchange, they have proven over time they don't want to be banks and will never offer any protections to their users.. Plus the majority trade against their customers to make money

To withdraw from crypto.com they would have to have your password, email, 6 digit private pin, phone 2f verification and google authenticator 2f. Any indication that there was an attempt to withdraw?
