Covid and the loss of taste and smell

This is about losing senses more than Covid.
Second time getting it, first time losing sense of smell and taste.
This is a very "out of sorts" and depressing feeling, and I knew it would be... I lost my senses Sunday. I think they're starting to come back a tiny tiny bit today. I can sort of smell and taste my honey roasted peanut butter.
It put a big arse smile on my face.
I have had friends go through losing smell and taste. I've read the old threads on here from a few years ago. I'm already in a half depressed state.. those threads were jarring.. Reading about people dealing with this... it's not a fun situation to be in at all. I hope my situation is over very quickly.
It really really sucks when you can't smell or taste. I have had no appetite, the idea of eating food and not smelling or tasting it is depressing as hell.
You don't realize how much enjoyment and connection you have from smell and taste.
Anyone out there still battling long term loss of senses? I read some of the posts from the old threads about people still not getting them back after 1 or 2 years... Read one where a dude's wife got Covid, lost her senses, got Covid again like a year and half later, senses came back. Weird stuff.

Should have gotten 12 boosters, triple mask, and wear two face shields. #SlowTheSpread
Sorry you have a cold. I’ll say a prayer for you

Pretty sure I’ve had covid 4 times and I only lost my sense of smell/taste once. I don’t recall how long it lasted but it was the worst part of having COVID.

Lost my sense of taste for a week, so I made cool videos eating raw onions and shite like that. It was weird as shite

I have skipped all the covid threads for years.

I had the chy-na flu four times, but the only time I list my sense of taste and smell was the first round. It took about a month for my sense of smell to return, and a little longer for taste. Ever since then, chocolate and coca-cola taste different to me.

My OP is about the loss of senses. Possibly permanent loss of senses. Not about Covid. Not worried about Covid.
Wondering if there are people out there who haven't been able to smell or taste for the last four or so years, and how they have dealt with that.
The board is dead today anyway. You'll be okay too.

I tested positive in July of 2020 and my taste and smell have been fricked up since. Anything fried smells like burnt sewage. All coffee tastes burnt. Wheat bread has a weird smell and taste now. Boiling pasta is off-putting. I fricking hate it.

Did you lose a lot of weight? I imagine depression is inevitable.
Something you just learned to live with i guess. Hate it for ya. I've had trouble dealing with it for a few days.. I can't imagine dealing with what you're dealing with.
Good luck, hope it fixes itself one day soon.

Its been 3 years and I have about 80% of my smells and 95% of my tastes back. For 1 whole year I have no smell or taste and had to go through olfactory training. Once I started to get them back, the smells and tastes were different, and still to this day certain things do not smell the same. Simple things like gasoline and a burning fire smell different than what they used to smell like.
As far as taste, artificial orange flavored things still taste horrible to me. I used to love orange drinks like crush and Fanta. Now, even the smell makes me gag.

I got the og covid in 2020 and my sense of smell was gone for like 2 years then slowly came back. I think it’s finally back to baseline. The actual illness was mild and i never lost my sense of taste. In fact, without a sense of smell i could taste the air. Like a snake. Weird.

Your wife or girlfriend may dispute your estimate of exactly when you lost your senses.
