Being legal and being in practice are 2 different things.

Not that I’m promoting it, but a little perspective is needed. Cousin marriage has been the norm throughout history, and it wasn’t until the 1200s that the Catholic Church crusaded against it, and it was mostly political, monetary and for power gain.
“Politically, the Church’s stance on cousin marriage also had practical consequences. By restricting such marriages, the Church gained control over land inheritance and wealth distribution. Marriages within noble families often involved the transfer of significant property, and by limiting the ability of families to marry within their extended kin groups, the Church could exert influence over land and inheritance rights. This often worked in favor of consolidating power and wealth within Church-controlled estates, while also weakening the influence of secular aristocracy, especially in regions where noble families were tightly interwoven”
It’s not biblical, as Isaac and Rebecca got married, and Levitican law clearly spells out what is incest, and cousin is not one of them, but brother/sister-in-law is which is not illegal.
These are secular ethics that people have adopted. Thank God lol.

This is true.
It is legal for Louisiana not to be ranked 50th in most major metrics. In practice though...

I am pleasantly surprised that Mississippi is not on this list

Genetically, not a great idea. True first cousins share a lot of DNA. This means those genes that would express negative physical and mental traits and would remain recessive will frequently be expressed as dominant. This leads to a variety of maladies some very subtle and some much more severe.

The royal family approves of this.

Wonder about those restrictions. Like “only if she’s really hot will we allow this gross marriage to happen”? Or “only if they’re spayed, neutered, or too old to have kids”?
