Toyota Rav 4

Long story short our van has 180k miles on it and is starting to have problems. I have a daughter that will be 16 in a couple years and wants a Rav 4. I'm thinking of buying one for my wife to drive for a couple years until my daughter turns 16 and then doing it all over again for my next daughter who will be 2.5 years behind her.
Is there anything I need to know about the vehicle? Any thing I want or don't want? I want base line model as its going to be a first time driver but didn't know anything about the engine? We've had good luck with our toyota's as I drive a Tundra and my son drives a Tacoma. TIA

Look at a 2022 CH-R with low mileage.
Easy driver and small enough for a young female driver.
Make sure to do city driver and Interstate before buying.

I think some of the later models on that platform have CVT's, stay away at all costs and do whatever it takes to get a conventional slushbox.

RAV’s are pretty bare bones vehicles that don’t seem to age particularly well. I would highly recommend you check out the Honda CR-V. Mid sized SUV with great safety rating, many more amenities and you can get the pimped out version for less than $40k (including TTL). Recently bought 2 of these for my kids.

I have two 2023 RAV4 Hybrids XLE. Average 42mpg with typical Toyota reliability. Routine maintenance covered to 36k miles. I believe the XLE package offers the best value on options and the hybrid offers much better fuel economy and AWD without sacrificing performance.

The Bad:
The passenger seat sits way too fricking high and isn't adjustable.
6'2+ passengers will not like that front passenger seat.
The sunroof is noisy even when closed.
both of these issues are known now but we didn't know before buying new in 2021. They may not be an issue on 2024 and newer versions.
The good:
We've put 100k miles on in it in 4yrs. From Baton Rouge, We've driven that little fricker to Austin/New Braunfels/San Antonio four times, Disney World twice, and Lexington/Cincinatti. Not a single issue.
Great lil SUV.

In 2018, we bought a 2016 rav4 for our daughter. She’s still driving it and loves it. She’s now gainfully employed since college graduation and has zero plans to replace it any time soon.

Also, it's the Corolla Cross with the CVT, not the RAV 4. The non-electric RAV has an 8 speed automatic.

Fantastic vehicle for kids. Easy to park. Normal maintenance = no repairs. It’s what we got our kid for college and still has it. XLE with sunroof and leather upgrade. Very nice car.

I drove one for a couple of years & loved it. Seems like there was a blind spot, so I would get the blind spot detector. The only reason we got rid of it was that it wasn’t comfortable for my husband on long trips. (He was 6’4”). No other complaints, even handled well in winter weather.

Had one as a rental for 1 month. Tore up the lease roads from carlsbad to jal to hobbs.
Anyone been up over there knows those roads are rough.
It just skipped everywhere like a mountain goat. Very impressed

Yes but they are not underpowered.
