Mandatory 80 hour work week.

Elon has floated the idea of having people who work in the DOGE to work 80 hours a week. I think this would be a great idea across the board for young people under the age of 35.
Any young person fresh out of college should be required to work 80 hours a week for at least the first ten years of their professional life. I think it would teach these young lazy libs a lot about hard work and being a productive member of society. We have too many people skating by on just working 40 hours a week and society has gotten lazy as a result of it.
Also, stop this work from home nonsense. Nobody should be working from home, if you aren’t in the office you aren’t working. I hope upper management at more companies starts forcing their employees to come back in. These lazy libs only want to work 40 hours a week, and also sit at home while they do it. It has created a huge problem with our society.

They think 40 hours is too much already.
Young people today are just not very competitive.

shite! I'm 55 and love working 7-12's. It's one hell of a pay check!!!!!! Once you get into the routine, it isn't bad.
In fact I could really use some 84 hr checks!

You’re going to get downvoted to oblivion, and I think the semantics of how much time is required can be discussed, but I take your point well. The best thing that ever happened to me was working a job in my 20s that required sustained periods of overwork and unreasonable demands. People in their 20s could definitely use this.

In my opinion, it’s not about how many hours you clock, but how efficient you are with those hours. Can some people produce for 80 hours every week? Sure. Can most be effective after a certain threshold? No.
After some number of hours, it becomes counterintuitive if the goal is efficiency.

50 hours is more than reasonable

That's a good way to make people's physical and mental health go to shite.....along with further dropping the birth rates. As a Gen-Xer, I already work 60-65 hours/week during the school year. Part of it is for the money, while the other part is the accumulation of comp time to get the summer off. While it doesn't bother me, nobody should be forced into it. If someone can support themselves only working 20 hours/week, good for them.

The hours wouldn't be that important to me, but competing would so whatever it took to be the best in the office, I would do.
I compete everywhere at everything.... Born that way.

I work 40 hr weeks.
2 days remote.
I'm private sector.
Productive.
My role is project based.
I have multiple products we are working towards patenting.
I'm helping launch new business line around the world.
I work directly with our CEO, have meetings with our private equity board members once a week.
This idea everyone needs to be "in the office" is outdated and stupid. People who function like ADULTS are responsible enough to get shite done without someone over their shoulder.
TBH, if you work a solid arse 6 hours in a day, you'd be shocked how much you can get done.

What if I'm completing all of my work assignments on time and on budget? What if my performance reviews show that I am exceeding expectations?
It should be up to the supervisor as the whether an employee can wfh. Sure, make under performers go to the office. But leave the rest of is the hell alone
Eta another couple of points.
I work with a global team. Even if I went to the office I would be sitting in Teams meetings all day with a team of people who are geographically dispersed across the globe. What difference does it matter which chair I am sitting in with my headset on?
Also, as a hiring manager, I am trying to build the best team possible to provide the best service as possible for my organization. Why would I limit my talent pool to Baton Rouge when their is an entire world full of talent?
Sounds like you do manual labor or some menial job and are narrow minded and jealous.

I work what I have to work to get the job done - if it’s 80, it’s 80. If it’s 40, it’s 40.
Try working for yourself . . .

Working longer hours and rewarding based on merit will foster competitiveness among young people.

I worked a limited number of 70, 80, and even 90 hour weeks in my 20s and early 30s.
I wouldn’t try that on a regular basis.

Good luck with that. They'll bitch about that too.

Nope.

And you go on to tell us why in the very next sentence.
Do you think the number of people in American society who function like ADULTS has been increasing or decreasing over the last 25 years or so?
If you're having a hard time deciding, I will refer you to YouTube and TicTok.

What would he be jealous of that would translate into being randomly against WFH?
