Recruiting Sites going forward

I think that if recruiting sites want to stay relevant and not lose subscribers, they need to focus less on making predictions and be better and more focused on evaluation of talent for their systems.
They can also have features like 247 where they track the ranking of players over time. (Shea told me about a year ago that On3 was looking at doing this, but nothing so far).
Also, they could go “back in time” after that class has graduated and re-grade classes and players. Maybe only the top 100, or, in 247 or On3 cases, the top 247 and 300 players, depending on how much work would be involved.
What do you think? What would you like to see (within reason)?

I sure love the idea of looking back at classes. It’s pretty interesting to see how the kids we all thought we had to have might not have panned out and some we all thought were nice additions are very productive at LSU or other schools and went on to nice NFL careers. I still occasionally see a LSU player in the NFL that didn’t even start or play much for us.

They need to allow athletes to take over their page. Even charge them to gain revenue. Players could change their page layout etc. but not stats. They also need to be able to get real stats for each player. The first site that creates a database for high school coaches to upload stats each Friday night or Saturday will be last man standing.

Even the ones that came out of FCS or Div2 schools that were drafted. Or the ones that were drafted that came from those and other lower conferences and later went through the portal to be drafted.
They could even go back and grade (in hindsight) before the advent of the star system. Might take too much work without more staff, but interesting nonetheless

Unfortunately as I've said before recruiting sites are cooked. With the impossible predictability of who is going to offer the highest bid for a recruit the information these sites peddle in is worthless in the longterm.
If these sites wanted to stay in business then they would stop evaluating recruits all together. The way they report and hype these prospects up only adds to the overall and overblown contract demands. If these sites just focused on the college team and how the players were performing and developing instead of the recruiting coverage then it would better off for the entire sport. Let the colleges do the scouting and recruiting instead of the services.
These kids get these "5 Star" hype about them and all that brings is dollar signs to them, their families, and anyone else who wants to latch onto them to get a piece of the pie.
IMO tear all recruiting sites down and not have a prospect has a rank assigned to them and it will help balance out the overall detriment that the NIL has had on the collegiate game.

Recruiting Sites
worthless nowadays... they have to adapt and get away from the "crystal ball" bullshite.. it's not like it used to be..
instead of "what might be" they need to focus on "what it is", and do deeper analysis of prospects, not just give stats and some ambiguous rating

Have podcasts on on3 with fans included

“Take over?”
If what you mean by that is having what you said under that, it just sounds like HUDL.
I think that would cause more people to unsubscribe. If it was something separate from their main site then they could do that.
But it’s a fan driven model that they have. That’s why they have forums for teams, specific content and pages for teams and conferences, etc.

Maybe I should not be doing this. I’m not getting paid for this and I’m not going to get any credit.
Just forget about it (unless you don’t want to)

That’s why I said that they need to pivot away from this model of prediction (crystal ball or whatever) they are going to die. Adapt or die.
However, I think the star system and evaluation is not a problem. In fact, like I said, they should double down and expand on this and get better than their competitors. Stand out and be first.

I think you’re absolutely right to say that the evaluation side of things is probably more valuable to the user than predictions in this new NIL/pay to play era.
At the same time, I think evaluations are the hardest part to get right. If you have a guy at On3 or 247 who is beating the offer lists (and thus beating the actual teams’ recruiting staffs) with his evals, how long do you think he’ll be at On3 or 247?

I would like to continue never paying for recruiting news from an analyst that knows less about football than me. I will continue to report to the recruiting board to get all my info from you baws

I get you, but that’s where most of these guys get their info to post here

Good point. I’m not suggesting that they’d be better than teams’ evaluations. But, they could even be a resource for coaches to find some players that they wouldn’t have known about to evaluate themselves (even if they poached someone from that particular site).
But, good point nonetheless

No one is evaluating anymore. They rank players off of their offer list, for the most part.

I’d rather spend that money per month, on NIL.

Exactly… offer lists, stats, etc… nothing that actually translates into actual information about the player… it’s one of the best things NFL.com does during the draft, the player evals that go over strengths and weaknesses of the player being evaluated
