Seems like making Nike richer actually hurts your program...if schools said no, Knight might end this crazy spending

Is knight still affiliated with Nike financially? Does he still own stock or is he divested from it?

Nike, Inc. is not filling Oregon's football coffers, Phil Knight is, and he's 86 years old. I expect his estate will continue to direct certain funds to Oregon football in some capacity per his instructions. But there's no reason to think the hyper aggressive football giving will continue when he's gone.

He's an emeritus, non-voting member of the board and thats the extent of his current involvement. He and his son still own a large percentage of Nike's total shares. Like 20%+

And the answer is no, schools are going to take deals from whoever gives them the most money and kids want to wear.

Nike literally pays the schools to wear its product. It's essentially just an advertisement.

Phil Knight is 86 years old and worth $35 billion. He isn't worried about running out of money. And no, schools will not sign with other companies because of that.

This is a great question. Ohio State has one of if not the most lucrative contract with Nike. The way Knight is spending money it might make sense to go in another direction. Why fuel the Knight spending?

I've always wondered about this, but Nike pays the schools, and I doubt those dollars can be replaced.

Probably less to do with the schools contract with Nike since the money is going the other way. The fans need to stop buying Nike products.

Schools will sign with whichever company offers the most money. Which is usually Nike.

I agree with you, but I wonder if he has created trusts that will fund Oregon athletics and US track and field in perpetuity.

That is the type of thing that a neutral corporate executive wouldn’t do, once Knight has passed away.

However, he has so much money and clearly cares very much about those two entities.

He still owns 17.4%. He no longer has voting rights on the board.
