I have read some other threads in months past on MVNO options. I have AT&T currently, love the coverage but interested in trying something cheaper if it’s all the same.
Those of you have made the switch to consumer cellular, or red pocket, or us mobile etc, is the service the same?
How do you keep you number for one?
And second, I see it’s not u limited premium data, does that make a difference bc I currently use a lot more than 100 GB of data monthly

I used to have Consumer Cellular. Everything was fine until they forced me to get a new phone when 3G was no longer going to be available. They swore that the new phone worked exactly like the old one which was a lie. I smashed it. I sent them the phone in 51 pieces and switched carriers. Every now and then they send something in the mail saying "Give us another chance." I send the letter back with carefully selected expletives written on it. You would think they would get the message.

We’ve been with Total (Verizon MVNO) for years. I also tried Visible and my oldest daughter is now using that.

Both are as good as Verizon. I can’t tell the difference with either.

I have been with US Mobile for almost a year. Extremely happy, However, if you use 100gb a month I dont think there's an MVNO that will accommodate that amount of data use. US Mobile is unique that you can choose which network you want, Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile. I use T-mobile and am happy with it everywhere I go in the Southeast LA area and coastal MS.

I've used Spectrum mobile (Verizon) and mint (T-Mobile). Never had a problem with either. Found mint to be alot faster data in my area. Both significantly cheaper than whatever you're paying for ATT

A lot you know. Even though it was years ago I am still pissed about having to give up a phone I liked just because of the 5G bullshite. I was also pissed that the replacement was as bad as it was. To think they would ever get another chance is maddening and the reason for the return of the letter with selected expletives.

Well, I didn’t think I use that much until I look at my usage earlier. I listen to Pandora a fairly decent amount. But not more than the next guy I didn’t think.
Can you keep your same number?

Telcos have been porting numbers for years and it is fast and simple.

This one is more tricky with MVNOs. You'll need to research the fine print. Most of them have fine print letting you know that your data will be throttled at a certain point.

I use Google Fi on an unlimited plan and I have no issues with data or speeds. I obviously don't look at as much porn as you do because I don't hit 100 + Gb. Fi uses T-Mobile so if their coverage is good in your area you may want to look at it. It also has a good international roaming plan for vacations.

My wife is on AT&T prepaid. I believe it’s $45/mo “unlimited”.

That's all fine and dandy... but you STILL don't do this...

Also... I suppose they would have let you keep your 3G phone and not made you go to the 5G service... of course, you wouldn't be able to use your 3G phone, as 3G was completely phased out by the carriers in 2022, so Consumer Cellular had literally no choice in the matter.

I know that. The issue was that they sold me an inferior phone to replace a good one and lied about its quality and ease of use.

I just switched to Visible Wireless. Unlimited everything including hotspot. They offer 2 plans $25 or $45 per month. They're running a special right now so even cheaper. I was with ATT for many years but their prices are just too high for a single line.
Owned by Verizon and I have great service. The downside is everything is done online. You can't call and talk to anyone if you have an issue, only chat online. No store fronts to go to either. However, that part isn't that big a deal.
I'm on the special they currently have and their unlimited everything is $30 per month all inclusive.

I've been on Google Fi for a while and had no problems but I'm about to switch my whole family to Patriot Mobile. Probably going to save $150 per month for the same service.

I can't speak more highly of Visible. It's owned by Verizon not just an MVNO using their their towers so it's their MVNO offering to compete with Metro by T-Mobile and Cricket for Att&t. Another benefit with them compared to everyone including Verizon is completely unlimited hotspot at 4g speeds (5 mbs on the $25 plan and 10 Mbs on the $45 plan)

Downsides are more limited bring your own phone options, weak new phone purchase deals compared to others, and only chat for any customer support.

Customer service isn't bad through chat by any means, but obviously not as good as walking into a store or phone customer service usually. However, the service is great. I often hit 200 Mbs + on the phone.

When you switched you could keep your number?

Yes you can keep your current number, just make sure to inform them you wish to keep your number. You will need to port out from current carrier which is very simple. You request a port out approval number and give it to the new carrier. Overall very simple and painless.
