If you pull up the Wikipedia page for Cypress Ridge High, you will notice one name listed in the notable alumni field.
Russell Shepard.
That says much about Cy Ridge, a young, growing school in northwest Houston. That also says much about Shepard’s legacy there.
“He’s kind of been the adopted son of our whole community,” Cy Ridge football coach Gary Thiebaud said. “Everybody feels like it’s their own child going off to college.”
Shepard won’t wear No. 10 for the Rams anymore. No one will. The quarterback’s jersey rests in a shadow box near the athletics office, retired less than a month after his final game.
But the story continues.
Shepard will begin classes as an LSU freshman Monday, one of five future Tigers who finished high school last month so they could enroll early

I hope Shepard has a great career, but I think the expectations placed on this young man are out of control.

You are wrong, Shep feeds off the pressure. He enjoys it.

as do I, but I like the fact that he is not dead set on playing QB, that he would change positions if needed
quote:
Shepard is convinced he will get that during spring practice. He expects an open competition between himself and Jordan Jefferson, who finished his freshman season on a hot streak.
But ask him about Percy Harvin, the University of Florida’s speedy, running back-wide receiver hybrid. Ask him if he would have a problem playing such a role.
“The next Percy Harvin?” Shepard says. “That would be amazing.”

Wait til he throws his first INT/TD or fumbles or ANYTHING...and see how long it takes the "faithful" on here to want to run his arse out of town like Lee

Those same out of control expectations ruined Tebow's career at Florida.

Should be an expert by the time he leaves LSU

I am more excited about the person jioning the football team than the player......well, almost.
Sounds like a wonderful kid. And, yes the pressure is intense, but Jefferson will relieve some of that in Spring when he solidifies his starting role. JJ is our QB and I expect RS in the slot.

quote:Doubtful. He's got 10x the talent that Lee has. He can bring so much more game than Lee, it's not even funny. Sure he will have some missteps, but he'll more than make up for it with other parts of his game.

I'm going to steal his LSU map on the first day and lead him to the wrong building.

I wonder if he'll have a posse, or just look like a normal lost freshman. I might take him under my wing, thus securing my spot in his entourage if/when he makes it big.

i bet he's got a posse here already. his old lady has been going to school here...

Thanks for the article, Speedster.
His off field efforts in the community are off the charts. His voice mail says, "God Bless". He is confident w/o arrogance. He is a leader. He sounds a lot like Tim Tebow.
ps His HS coach is named Thiebaud. Is it pronounced like Tebow by any chance?
