Ashton Jeanty within striking distance of Barry Sanders's single season rushing record

After today's performance against Oregon State, he now has 2,288 yards rushing with at least two more games left to play. Barry Sanders finished the 1988 season with 2,628 yards rushing, which means that Jeanty is a mere 340 yards shy of tying those numbers.
That being said...there are some caveats that I'm sure EVERYONE is going to point out:
1. Barry Sanders put up those numbers in 11 games against a fairly competitive schedule. Jeanty has yet to reach those numbers and he's played in 12 games and counting.
2. Barry Sanders's bowl game numbers are not included in the final tally as postseason play did not count toward a player's official stats until the late-90s. If they had been, Barry Sanders would have had an additional 222 yards and five touchdowns when you include his Holiday Bowl numbers.

That holiday bowl was something.
Jeanty is really good but does not compare to what Barry did in that era.

Just a question - why can’t we just retroactively include the bowl numbers? What’s the negative to this?

And to think Jeanty sat the second half for half the games this season. Give him the Heisman.

Why did they even play bowl games if they didn’t count for the polls/national championship until the late 60s/early 70s or stats until 2002
Stats need to be retroactively added if we start talking about breaking records.

I bring this up a lot on the Rant with way a lot of LSU records have been broken recently. It’s particularly interesting because the 01 cutoff year leaves out stuff that Ro and Reed did in the Sugar Bowl.

This is absolutely asinine. It’s 1 game. They could easily go back and adjust numbers for everyone that has a record
The “extra” games from more games during the season and any championship/playoff games is whatever, but to just act like bowl games never happened is dumb

There were very few games that he did this. He had 312 carries in 12 games, which is 26 per game. This was against mostly mediocre to bad competition. Sanders averaged 238 yards per game; Jeanty averages fewer than 200 yards per game. It will take Jeanty at least 14 games to break the 2,628 yards that Sanders set in 11 games. Not saying he isn't good, but comparing the two isn't apples to apples.

He did say MOSTLY. Oregon is top 10 nationally in total defense. They are not mediocre.

That’s cool and all but does anyone think he is a better RB than Barry?
Pretty sure no one considers Ron Dayne a better RB than Herschel Walker but the records would indicate otherwise
