Be thankful for your large, dramatic family and be thankful for your small ones too

I always find myself slipping into comparing my own life with others during the holidays. I see posts on social media or hear from friends about their large get togethers with cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, friends, kids, etc. Some have 10, 20, 30+ people and it becomes a holiday family reunion with all the love and all the drama that comes with it.
It’s easy to let envy infiltrate my mind.
But our small get together is meaningful too. It’s still full of what makes the day special: love, food, and kinship that many out there would love to have.
So how many people are you feasting with tomorrow?

About 10. Gonna be hard holidays for me this year… I weep at random times. I just miss her… it’s so hard sometimes.

Will only be 8 of us because a few others are out of town.
Wish it could only be 6.
Our good side of the family celebrates Christmas in a big way so we love the 30-40 person gatherings as well as a few smaller parties

6. First big holiday since my mother died last spring. My father wants to have everybody at his house again. I'm sure that's how she would have wanted it too. I hope we can find some happiness among the sadness.

We will have about 30ish.
Not sure what will happen once my parents age out of hosting, so really trying to enjoy these years where we all still get together.

Nice post! My ex invited me over along with my kids etc. Small crowd and that’s fine.

One. Happy as a clam by myself (clams are happy? who knew.), but I still will be carrying all of my friends in my heart.

I like small gatherings. Wife and kids. Make a point to see my parents. I like to rest and reflect a bit.

There were many years when I celebrated with about 25. Over time things changed, and tomorrow we will be 5. But it is still probably our single favorite holiday day. Friday will be a little larger with 10. Zero drama tomorrow. Perhaps some Friday. I guess we have it all!
