This list should be eye opening

1. Dillon Gabriel (Oregon)
2. Will Howard (Ohio St)
3. Quinn Ewers (Texas)
4. Kurtis Rourke (Indiana)
5. Riley Leonard (Notre Dame)
6. Cam Ward. (Miami)
7. Jackson Dart. (Ole Miss)
8. Jake Retzlaff. (BYU)
9. Shedeur Sanders (Colorado)
10. Sam Leavitt (Arizona St)
11. Luke Altmayer (Illinois)
12. Hajj Williams. (UNLV)
What do they have in common?
They all transferred to their current school.
All of these teams came into this weekend ranked in the AP top 25.
After today it looks like 6 or 7 of the 12 playoff teams will be lead by transfer QB’s.
Last spring I posted here that I thought LSU should use the portal for QB’s and focus high school recruiting on O Line, D Line and defensive backs.
I was called an idiot for those statements.
There will always be major QB talent in the portal bc only one can start for each team. It’s way harder to come by elite linemen in the portal.
I will always be skeptical of paying the majority of NIL funds for a QB who is coming straight from high school, no matter how highly ranked they are.

I upvoted and completely agree. Obviously you still recruit QB’s for depth but yes it makes very good sense what you said.

After thinking about it I have to agree with you. I would add for college I think a dual threat QB is almost a must have. You make a great point and I have always felt the team with the best DL usually will win the game.
If you go back and look at the last 15 National Champs they have had numerous DL drafted in the first 2 rounds.
I have to agree you can only start one QB so they will be available and the last 2 we got won the Heisman so you are on to something.

So we should take Underwoood out the portal in two years for a cheaper price?
Posted on 11/24/24 at 3:39 am to SA4LSU
He might be available next year if it's correct that his deal was for multiple years.

BK was not going to go into the transfer portal to grab another QB. He grabbed Daniels and had success. If he goes into the portal, what HS QB would want to be recruited by him? To sit the bench and when it's his turn, BK gets a transfer QB to start?
FSU went 13-0 last year. They got a QB in transfer portal. How did that work out?

What HS QB is committed?
You don't owe shite to 17 year olds. Get the best people for your team. Getting a top end recruit is great, but giving them a starting job damn near precludes you from going after a title.

No one is saying that you start a freshman QB. You start him if only necessary. Transfer players are a risk. Look at what happened to FSU. Transfer QB sucked and a team that was poised to win the ACC only has 2 wins. That player will transfer out.
All I'm saying is Kelly got Daniels and it worked. If he dipped into transfer portal to get another QB with Nuss on bench and did not work out, then you wasted 1 year with 2 players at a key position.
Who would be the top QB that you would want to have transferred here before the Season?

Their transfer did not work out this year, but they went 13-0 the year before with Jordan Travis, who was a transfer.

So a team that had back to back transfers had no other QBs developed. Imagine if they developed a QB while Travis was there. They could not have wasted NIL money on a QB that busted out.
That's the situation LSU could have been in. It's like when the Saints did not prepare for when Brees retired. They just keep getting free agent QBs that don't work and not draft and develop a QB.
What QB you think LSU should have went after? You would honestly think the record would be better?

We're talking about next year, right? Muss was clearly fine. But he's probably going pro, no?
Mateer comes to mind. Washington State can't afford him. Cam Ward worked out pretty well for Miami and Mateer is probably as good or better.
Arizona's QB has had an awful year but might be a cheap reclamation project.
Miller Moss needs a new job and would be worlds better than any freshman. Also probably relatively cheap. He got benched, but wasn't why USC was losing. He's just not a 45 throws a game guy. 50/50 split with a solid OL and he'll crush it.

I don’t know you and didn’t see your previous post so if everyone called you an idiot for your statements, then I’ll have to agree. However, thanks for putting that transfer list together. It typically takes 2 years for a transfer QB to really impact a team, unless your Dillon Gabriel who’s been in the league for 6 yrs. If BK is trying to build on his depth, and Nuss comes back, I don’t think this is the year for a transfer. If he goes that route in the spring, Hurley and or Collins are gone.

So half the playoff teams and half the top 25 are led by non-transfer QB.

I still see pro style who can scramble as ideal, and my preference, but if your team has a lot of issues on offense a running QB can mask a LOT of issues.
So until we have a better team surrounding us, a dual threat is a must.

Take all that money and put it towards defensive line and secondary! LSU sucks at those positions and I mean sucks!

They didn't just get any transfer QB. They took a shot on a QB that for some reason people couldn't stop salivating over even though he's done nothing for 4 years. People wanted DJU to be the next thing so badly and he just wasn't good. That doesn't mean that transfer QBs aren't the way to go.
LSU hasn't had a good HS recruit as QB since Russell. Quit trying to recruit one and develop them. We aren't good at evaluation nor development. Go get a portal guy.

Ive never posted but absolutely agree with this. If QB is very hard to evaluate, why not just go to the portal. ESPECIALLY, given the reputation and success LSU has had doing this.
